ROTJ Y-Wing Pilot Actress & Cancer Charity

Posted By Mike on January 22, 2012

British actress Lynne Hazelden portrayed a Gray Squadron Y-Wing pilot (later named Karie Neth) in a small uncredited role in Return of the Jedi. Unfortunately, Lynne is now suffering from breast cancer, but as the press release below indicates, she's now taking the fight to her terrible illness through awareness and personal fund raising in the UK.

UPDATE: TheJC.com reports that Lynne Hazleden is now in Isreal receiving her specialized treatment of Dendritic Cell Vaccines. We wish Lynne success in her continuing breast cancer fight. Click here to check out the article.

Star Wars Actress Teams Up With Pioneering Charity to Bring Kinder Cancer Treatments To The UK At

(PRWEB UK) 3 January 2012 - As actress, Lynne Hazelden’s fight to get specialised treatment for her breast cancer becomes more urgent, so does her desire to raise people’s awareness in the UK of the pioneering cancer treatments currently available abroad. On her "Yes to Life/Just Giving.com" website, http://www.JustGiving.com she says she has got a much better chance of making it happen.

When Lynne Hazelden, discovered she had breast cancer in 2010, aged 51, she knew she was in for a very tough time. Not only because the treatments for cancer in the UK are known to be aggressive but because her health was already seriously compromised due to a rare mercury and amalgam allergy, diagnosed at Guys Hospital in 1995. An allergic reaction to fillings had left her health and energy seriously impaired and her body highly sensitive to conventional drugs.

Lynne, who has made appearances in ‘Star Wars’, ‘The Bill’ and ‘Judge John Deed’ as well as working voluntarily with young people on The Hunger Project and for peace organisations, bravely decided to have a mastectomy. The aggressive effects that chemotherapy and other therapies can have, Lynne felt could be too much for her already compromised health.

While the surgery was successful, Lynne recently discovered another lump in her reconstructed breast and learned the cancer had affected her lymph nodes too. The second lump and some lymph nodes have now been removed but she doesn’t intend to take it easy until she’s not only raised the funds she needs for own treatment but awareness in the UK of the much kinder treatments for cancer that are proving successful in other countries.

Lynne has discovered new and successful pioneering treatment in Israel at the International Centre for Cell Therapy and Cancer Immunotherapy. The centre specialises in treatments for cancer which include a broad range of personalised therapies. Lynne is hoping to have treatment herself there but to also bring knowledge of the kinder treatments on offer to patients in the UK.

The treatment will cost over £100,000 and Lynne is working hard, despite ill health to raise it. She has set up a blog and is currently creating a cancer cure awareness website. The site also aims to raise awareness of the nutritional programmes and complementary medicines that are available to people in the UK right now which can greatly lessen the side effects of the aggressive treatments people are having here.

To help Lynne raise the funds she needs, the pioneering charity ‘Yes to Life’, which gives direct support to cancer patients, have set up a Just Giving.com page for her so she can receive donations and promote her campaign. Lynne says, ‘With the help of ‘Yes to Life’ and the Just Giving page, I can raise the funds I need to treat my breast cancer and use my journey to raise awareness of the ground-breaking treatments available in other countries. These treatments are proving very successful and I want to help make them available for people in the UK as soon as possible. I am hoping to inspire everyone to join me and any unused funds raised will remain with ‘Yes to Life’ to help other people with cancer.’

Lynne’s Just Giving.com page allows people to donate whatever they can, not just money and she’s had some surprisingly pleasant contributions so far. ‘The donations are rising daily and although there’s still a long way to go I have a lot of hope’ says Lynne. ‘People are donating all sorts of things. I’ve been given a new iPhone to help me promote the campaign and I’ve even had signed cards of my character, Kari Neth in ‘Star Wars’ donated to help raise money too.’

When enough funds have been raised, Lynne will finally be able to send the small piece of her tumour, currently being stored in her best friend’s freezer, to the centre in Israel, where it will be needed to create a personally tailored treatment for her. Then Lynne’s treatment will begin and her chances of survival will be significantly increased.

To make a donation or learn more about Lynne’s journey and the pioneering treatments available, visit Lynne's site.

We wish Lynne all the best in her personal fight and loudly applaud her charity efforts while going through such a tough time.
