Official The Force Unleashed Release Date!

Posted By Mike on April 4, 2008

From the LucasArts announcement at Starwars.com:

"LucasArts today announced that its highly anticipated video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released on September 16, 2008 in the United States, September 17 in Southeast Asia and Australia, and September 19 in Europe...

...LucasArts and Spike TV are teaming up together to unveil new details about and exclusive footage from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed in celebration of Spike TV's airing of all six Star Wars Saga movies. Airing Friday, April 4, through Sunday, April 6; and Friday, April 11, through Sunday, April 13, Spike TV's two-weekend event includes the broadcast premiere of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and the basic cable premieres of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Spike TV's Star Wars presentation marks the first time that all six movies will be presented together on a basic cable network.

Reflecting its status as an exciting new part of the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be featured throughout Spike TV's weekend events. Viewers will see special Star Wars: The Force Unleashed segments, each with an exclusive announcement or new game play footage, at the following times on Spike TV:

-April 6 at 7:58 p.m. ET/PT -- between the premiere of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith
-April 11 at 10:52 p.m. ET/PT -- At the end of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope
-April 12 at 12:00 a.m. ET/PT -- throughout an episode of GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley filmed at LucasArts' headquarters in San Francisco
-April 12 at 5:06 p.m. ET/PT -- before Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope
-April 13 at 5:06 p.m. ET/PT -- before Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back"

Even if it's a bit later than we had hoped, at least we finally have something official. It's gonna be a fun late summer! Click here for the full announcement. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed in with the news!

UPDATE: Just a couple more tidbits for you going along with the new official release date for The Force Unleashed sent over to us by our friend "Master Devwi"...

"Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) much lower than the $60 average for the “next-gen” consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3). Plus, if you pre-order it on LucasArtsStore.com, you will receive guaranteed arrival on September 16, 2008 (US only?) and an exclusive TFU mini comic.

o $47.99 – Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 SKUs

o $38.99 – Nintendo Wii SKU

o $31.99 – PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable SKUs

o $27.99 – Nintendo DS SKU

The official website for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has been redesigned! It looks great and the music in the background is amazing.

A new documentary about the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed experience has been released. (See Dustin's post here)It covers the differences you’ll find in the Wii, PS2, PSP, and DS versions (SKUs). Mysteriously, the Xbox 360 and PS3 details were left out of the documentary (maybe they will receive their own web doc).

There are a bunch of sweet desktop wallpapers available for download on the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed official site!"

Thanks "Master Devwi"!
