Star Wars Is Everywhere: Episode VII

Posted By Mike on May 26, 2010

We're venturing into uncharted territory, for Star Wars fans react in many different ways to the notion of a seventh installment. We can only hope that the Star Wars references, tributes, and links below hold true to continuity. Enjoy!

Our friend Tim V. from the Belgian fan site TeeKay-421.be sent over the following:

"This weekend I stumbled by accident upon this sign in Antwerp (Linkeroever), Belgium. I think it's a private road or parking lot for the people that live in an apartment. Why it is called 'Jawa', I don't know, but it sure was funny. The next day I took a photo of it. I cannot imagine what people might have thought about that when they saw us taking a picture of that sign :)"

Tim, if anyone saw you I'm sure they just laughed knowing they took their picture with the sign too! Thanks to Tim for sharing the pic with us.

Guardian.co.uk reports on the fun Star Wars-themed wedding of Richard and Clare Stephenson in the UK. Check out the excerpt below but make sure to click here for the full story with pics and video.

"A couple joined forces against the dark side in a Star Wars-themed wedding, attended by the dark lord himself.

Richard and Clare Stephenson, an accountant and a beauty consultant, both from Epsom, tied the knot at a ceremony in Leatherhead with a Jedi priest, Imperial Stormtroopers and Darth Vader.

The couple exchanged rings engraved with the famous line, from the George Lucas’ epic films, “may the Force be with you”, which they also uttered to each other, instead of saying the traditional “I do”."

(Thanks Kerry!)

We continue with another reader submission, this time from our friend Brian:

"Robert Redford was on Kieth Olbermann's MSNBC show discussing his tv commercial that advocates the government should take over the spill in the Gulf and not BP. And to start policing BP and be a leader in developing new energies. He conducted the interview from Skywalker Sound. How do I know this? It was on the wall behind him. Here are some screenshots."

(Thanks Brian!)

This isn't a reference so much, but my father sent over the link so I'd better pay attention. He's getting a little feisty in his older years like that crazy old wizard we've come to know and love. (and if you think I mean Dumbledor, you're on the wrong site!) Anyhoo, CNN presents a Star Wars quiz for your enjoyment.
(Thanks Donnie...I mean Dad!)

Elementary school students in Perrysburg, Ohio are expecting a visit from the Dark Lord of the Sith thanks to winning a Star Wars contest. Check out the excerpt below but them visit the Toledo Free Press for the full story.

"Darth Vader is going to visit Woodland Elementary School in Perrysburg thanks to the hard work and tech savvy of 28 fifth grade students.

Jason Hubbard and Marcia Myers joined the forces of their classes and encouraged the students to compete in a nationwide contest sponsored by Oliver and Andy’s Book Company that challenged students to create a planet where Darth Vader could go for vacation.

The students designed a website for the planet (http://faculty.perrysburgschools.net/darth) and named it “Emosewa,” which is “awesome” spelled backward. The planet features an upside-down mountain range, a crystal forest, floating oceans, a medical center, and a time travel option so Darth Vader could go back and right his wrongs."

TheGlobeandMail.com brings us up to date with the infamous "Star Wars Kid" who, eight years later, is the new president of the Patrimoine Trois-Rivières conservation society in Quebec.

It looks like a good time was had by all at a recent Star Wars Day in Massachussetts. From Telegram.com:

"Lightsaber-brandishing Jedi knights battled the dark forces at Star Wars Day yesterday at Higgins Armory Museum. So who was the winner?

The museum, actually.

More than 760 people showed up to join in the daylong galactic battle. Long lines formed at times outside Higgins as parents and their children — mostly boys elementary school age and younger — waited as calmly as kids ever can to get inside.

“It was a big success,” said Devon Kurtz, Higgins education director. “The museum was very full. There was a storm trooper or a Jedi around every turn.”

Only some of those characters were kids getting a second use out of last Halloween’s Darth duds. Most were full grown adults, members of the 501st Legion, a group of Star Wars re-enactors from throughout New England who like to dress up in full Star Wars regalia and then go out in public. They say they do it for charity and, indeed, many good causes have benefited from their high-spirited endeavors."
