On Location: Part 4
The Man Behind C-3PO

Summary by: Don Keefe

(Please note that the following comments are my opinions and speculations regarding the production of Episode II and do not necessarily reflect those of TheForce.net)

Once again someone introduces the On Location clip from the restaurant or caf?. This place has been featured now in 3 of the 4 On Location clips. She bears a resemblance to this Jedi Master in my opinion.

For this 2 min and 5 sec clip Ahmed interviews Anthony Daniels, the man behind C-3PO. If you look behind Ahmed there are many interesting things to see.

One is Jedi Master Yarael Poof on Ahmed?s left.

An alien. It kind of looks like an unfinished Sebulba.

This alien reminded me a lot of this character from A New Hope. Also resembles Watto with a longer nose.

As we all know Anthony Daniels has been the man behind C-3PO for all of the Star Wars films. Ahmed was interviewing him in what seemed to be the workshop for creating props and aliens. The actual location was not mentioned. Anthony described the challenges that he faced for Episode 1 and for Episode 2. In Ep1 C-3PO was a puppet. Anthony did the voice for 3PO? without interacting with the puppet at all. For Ep2 Anthony will be wearing the C-3PO puppet thanks to a harness that they have made for him. He said it?s very difficult because the puppet weighs over a hundred pounds.? From this interview I?m wondering if C-3PO will be wearing his familiar gold skin in Ep2 at some point or will it not be added until Ep3? It doesn?t seem so if Anthony is doing puppeteering as opposed to wearing the 3PO suit.

He also said one of the difficult parts about not actually being in the C-3PO costume is being able to make C-3PO convey different emotions. Because Daniels will interact with the puppet for Ep2 this will be a little bit easier. He received a crash course in puppeteering in order so he could work the C-3PO puppet.

Ahmed interviews C-3PO.

During the interview ther are some panning shots of the studio behind Anthony. In one scene it looks like it could be Senator Orn Free Taa or a being that closely resembles him. In the second shot you can see a head, but it?s difficult to make out. It looks like Aurra Sing possibly but that?s just a guess. It could be an unpainted model for all I know.

Lastly over Anthony?s shoulder you can see one of the modelers working on a mask. The quality of the QT movie is poor and the size of the clip is small so it makes it difficult to get clear pictures sometimes. However this looks like it could be Ki-Adi-Mundi.
