On Location: Part 10
Talkin (Photo) Shop
Summary by: Don Keefe
(Please note that the following comments are my opinions and speculations regarding the production of Episode II and do not necessarily reflect those of TheForce.net)
This On Location intro has the bar/ restaurant in the background like all the other clips. We haven?t seen this actress before and presumably she is an extra like the others but I cannot confirm this. You can see Ahmed in the background with the slate.
In this one minute and 32 second On Location clip Ahmed interviews John Knoll the Visual Effects Supervisor for Episodes I and II and also one of the creators of Photoshop.
Ahmed best with my computer face on. Why do I have my computer face on? Because I?m talking to the man, himself, John Knoll.
What are some of the challenges that you?re working on for Episode II?
?I don?t think so?
(Do you really think Lucas would let his Visual Effects Supervisor tell us about the effects for EP2?)
YOU CAN?T GET ANY OF THAT!! YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL EPISODE II COME OUT!
(If he wasn?t going to tell us, then why did he bother asking? Kind of annoying.)
John Knoll also invented a little computer program that you computer people might know called Photoshop.
Did you or did you not invent Photoshop?
Well, I had some help.
His brother is Thomas Knoll. It?s the first name you see when you load Photoshop!
How is creating Photoshop similar to being a Visual Effects Supervisor?
You have a large palette of tools and you can combine them in infinite ways.
John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor, poet, computer genius. Ahmed Best, computer face, later.
(Throughout the interview if you look behind John you can see the green screens that they use for visual effects. So they are on a stage in Australia presumably. John has his laptop there so perhaps they are doing a scene and John is taking notes for effects to be done later on.)
