Droid Hunt at Celebration III

Posted By Jeff on March 27, 2005

Fans attending Celebration III may find the event everyone is talking about will not be put on by LucasFilm but by the fans. The 501st Legion will be conducting a Droid Hunt at Celebration III. If you were at DragonCon, you might have seen the Empire's finest at the first event. TFN spoke with Dean Plantamura, the 501st organizer of the droid hunt.

On Friday, April 22nd, willing participants should come by the 501st Legion Fan Table and pick up a 501st Droid Hunt Badge. They should wear this badge on their person the following day (Saturday, April 23rd), making no effort to conceal it as they walk around the convention grounds.

Throughout the day, 501st members in full costume will confront the participants "in character" to collect the Droid Badges, re-enacting a moment similar to the Mos Eisley Checkpoint scene in A New Hope and giving fans a truly unique Star Wars Experience. The participants should surrender their Droid Badge to the 501st members in exchange for a 501st raffle ticket.

Randomly throughout Droid Badge distribution, some Droid Hunt participants will be given a special one-time use "Jedi Mind Trick" card allowing them to retain their Droid Badge until approached by second set of 501st troopers. At the end of day, 501st members from around the world will tally the results for bragging rights of most Droids collected and participants with raffle tickets will win great collectible prizes. Lucasfilm reps witnessed the first Droid Hunt at Dragon*Con 2004 and are excited to have the 501st bring this interactive fan event to Celebration 3. More details will be available at the 501st FanTable at C3.

For all the loyal Imperial citizens, now is your chance to help the Empire rid the convention of Rebel scum. Or can help the Rebellion and keep the droids away from Imperial patrols.

Here is a badge from DragonCon.
