The Clone Wars Wins Daytime Emmy For Outstanding Special Class Animated Program

Posted by Eric on June 16, 2013 at 08:57 PM CST

Star Wars: The Clone Wars has won a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Special Class Animated Program at the 40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards. This marks the first time that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has presented an award to The Clone Wars as a series. (David Tennant won an Emmy for his TCW guest appearance on Friday night.)

The Clone Wars beat Dan Vs. and The Legend of Korra for the award, which, appropriately enough, was presented by Carrie Fisher.

Executive producer George Lucas accepted the award on behalf of the series. Joining him on stage were producer Cary Silver, supervising director Dave Filoni, and line producer Athena Portillo.

Overall this year, The Clone Wars received seven Daytime Emmy nominations, including the one that resulted in this prestigious animation award. The other nominations were in categories that were part of the Creative Arts ceremony on Friday night. David Tennant's Emmy for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program was the series' only win at that event.

This is the first Emmy Award to be presented to a Star Wars television series since 2005, when the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars series won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program. It also won the same award in 2004.

Congratulations to the fantastic cast and crew of The Clone Wars for this much-deserved recognition!

UPDATE: Below is a statement from Dave Filoni on Facebook regarding tonight's Emmy win.
Everyone, as you know tonight Star Wars: The Clone Wars won an Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Animation and David Tennant won Friday for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Series for his work as Huyang.
