Dark Horse Addresses A Few Questions About The Star Wars Comics License

Posted by Eric on January 7, 2014 at 07:24 PM CST

ComicsAlliance spoke to people at Dark Horse and learned a bit more information about the effects of the Star Wars license transferring to Marvel in 2015.

They asked if Dark Horse would retain the rights to publish the stories that it had created (for example, in omnibus form), and Dark Horse's response was, "All rights go to Marvel." This means that Marvel will get to decide if more omnibuses, featuring as-yet-uncollected comics, are to be published.

"Dark Horse has said that Star Wars Comics purchased before 2015 on Dark Horse Digital will remain on its cloud afterward," Caleb Goellner from ComicsAlliance wrote, "but print copies of existing material will not continue."

Marvel declined to say what their plans for publishing existing material might be.

Dark Horse representatives did not know whether Marvel planned to further develop story ideas that originated at their predecessor licensee. We do know that Brian Wood's Star Wars and Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman's Star Wars: Legacy will end in 2014.
