J.J. Abrams Announces The First Day Of Shooting For Star Wars - Episode IX
With J.J. Abrams first tweet, he took the opportunity to post a photo from the set of Star Wars - Episode IX on the very first day of shooting. The still nameless final episode of this latest trilogy began filming today with the cast all in place, something which was revealed in a press release the other day. You can read that announcement HERE.
All the mainstays are back including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac. But joining the crew this time around are newcomers Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell and Naomi Ackie, and returning to the galaxy is Billy Dee Williams reprising his role as Lando Calrissian. The bittersweet release also announced that Carrie Fisher would conclude her role as Leia Organa, with the studio choosing to use unused footage from 2015's The Force Awakens to complete her story.
Star Wars - Episode IX hit theatres December 20, 2019.
Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go. Grateful for @rianjohnson and special thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part. #IX pic.twitter.com/FOfnGwVut5
