Lucas Donates Land for Big Rock Trail Posted By Joshua on November 10, 2003
The SacBee talks about a new trail now open thanks in part to some generous offerings from George Lucas. Here's a clip of the article and thanks to Enobt for the link:
Marin County's newest trail head is hard to miss: The grand Big Rock looms near the entrance to the 3.6-mile trail bearing its name.
Today, outdoor enthusiasts will gather to celebrate the opening of the Big Rock Ridge Trail, which gradually ascends to Marin's second-highest peak, offering panoramic views of Mount Diablo and the East Bay, San Francisco and rural landscapes to the west.
And the deluxe pathway adds one more link to the Bay Area Ridge Trail, which will ultimately circle the Bay Area along mountain ridges.
The completion of the 5-foot-wide trail through the Lucas Valley Open Space Preserve relied on generous land sharing by filmmaker George Lucas, and it also represents a triumph of cooperation among the often competing interests of Marin's bikers, hikers and horseback riders.
"This is the first trail we've actually built with all of the users in mind," said David Hansen, manager of planning and acquisition for the Marin County Open Space District, which constructed the pathway. Three bridges were installed on the trail, and builders used recent innovations to create a natural-looking but erosion-resistant trail, he added.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
