RUMOR: Matthew Vaughn To Direct Star Wars Episode VII

Posted By Dustin on November 28, 2012

Well, fresh off our news of Colin Trevorrow not directing Star Wars Episode VII comes word that the director to be tapped is none other than Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class). Actor Jason Flemyng, who has worked very closely with Vaughn and appeared in all nine of the films he has directed, was answering questions at the UK premiere of the film Seven Psychopaths when he let the following slip:

"Me and [Matthew Vaughn] have done nine films together so I'm sure I'll get the call for Star Wars. But I'm sure it's going to be, 'Flemyng, no...I know on paper it doesn't look like much but I promise you it's essential to the part.' So we'll see what happens with that."

Then, when he was asked if he thought Vaughn was interested in directing the film, Flemyng started to say, "I think that's--" before stopping, looking around, and adding in an exaggerated voice, "Uhhh, yeah, he's interested, yeah." While this may have been nothing more than Flemyng's way of saying "Um, yeah, I think he'd be crazy not to be interested," it's also possible that the actor was about to say, "I think that's confirmed" or something of that nature before realizing that he was jumping the gun.

It was all caught on video of course and you can check out that clip right here or watch it below. Flemyng's comments about Vaughn happen around the one-minute mark.
