Summary by: Don Keefe

(Please note that the following comments are my opinions and speculations regarding the production of Episode II and do not necessarily reflect those of TheForce.net)

This ?On Location? clip was again introduced outside on the Fox Studios lot. I?m assuming that she?s also an actress/extra in Episode II. Interesting costume. Looks possibly like some sort of guard or soldier uniform judging by the shoulder and chest plates. Where does she fit in?
This 2 minute ?On Location? clip, features Dave Young the man in charge of the special effects for Episode II.

Ahmed: Ahmed Best here, here at www.starwars.com for the World Wide Web. That?s right you saw it, you heard it, you feel it we have somebody that?s really cool for us to interview. Somebody really cool for you to click on to special effects, really important, please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

Dave: Dave Young and I?m doing the special effects for Episode II

(According to Dave?s shirt he?s also the Roly Poly Man!)

A static cockpit rig being used for EP2

Ahmed: What effects are you doing?
Dave: We?ve got flight simulators for various speeders. We?ve got massive rain rigs, pumping 7 ? tons of water per minute into the stages here. This rig behind us is a flight simulator powered by a pump, which is over there. (points off camera)

(Well this confirms without a doubt the fact that Obi-Wan and Jango will be fighting in the rain as has been mentioned on TFN many times in the past. Also Dave talks about various speeders. We know of the speeders on Coruscant and of the one from a few weeks ago that appeared in this select picture. The flight simulator is pretty cool too. I wonder if it will be used to simulate Jango?s ship in the rain???)

Ahmed: How hard is it to get a flight simulator up and running?
Dave: Well it?s been quite a job on this one because we started from scratch but we knocked it together in four weeks.

Ahmed: How hard is it to make it rain in Fox studios?
Dave: Well that?s pretty major too. We have to bring in the heads from the States, we had to fly in stuff from all over the world to get it all together but we?re ready now to set it up on stage.

Ahmed: Where do you get the water? Do you just plug it into a faucet?
Dave: Depending on how much we need normally we pump into swimming pools. We might have four pools and pumps behind that but for this we can come straight from the fire hydrants because we have the speed and the pressure we need.

Ahmed: How did you get to be in special effects?
Dave: I?ve been in it for about 20 years now. This is around my 100th film and my phones ringing and I?d better answer it.

Ahmed: His phones ringing, he?s got to go, we?ve got to go Dave Young, special effects, Please check out starwars.com. Check out his work, that simulator and me!

PEACE!

(One of the interesting things about this clip other than the special effects piece was the fact that you could see them building the set behind Dave.)

The building is quite large as you can see a workman in front of part of it. In the first picture too you can see what looks like a doorway. That doorway looks a lot like the set from another On Location with Hayden.
