Episode II - Hidden Images and Cameos

Marvin the Martian
I was looking through the Episode 2 Visual Dictionary today (I waited til after I saw the movie), and noticed something kinda funny that I don't think many people would get, let alone notice. On page 22 (the pages on the nightclub), there is a picture of many vials and bottles and such from the bar. One of the captions is pointing to a vial and is labeled "Aludium pu-36." There was a Looney Tune cartoon directed by the late Chuck Jones in 1958 called "Hare-way to the Stars" in which Bugs Bunny thwarts Marvin the Martian's plans to blow up the Earth with his "Aludium pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator," which looks suspiciously like a stick of dynamite. Looks like there's martians in the Star Wars galaxy as well. First E.T. in the senate, now this. (Dexter Jettster's Laboratory)

Jango Bands His Head
Jango Fett bangs his head on the Slave 1 door. Too funny that this clumsiness eventually gets cloned into Storm Troopers banging heads in Ep IV. (Hy)

Red Guards First Appearance
Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but in AOTC, if you look in the background of Palpatine's office, you can see the Red Guard from Return of the Jedi. You can only see them for a split second as Senator Amidala's group arrives. Remember the royal guards from Return of the Jedi? The red-cloaked personal protectors of the emperor make a background appearance in Clones, but keep an eye out. They're there for only a second. (sevenjedi, USA Today)

Death Star Ray
Another cameo image was the Death Star. Not the computer file that Dooku had, but the gunner pods on the Republic gun ships. They're round and fire a couple small beams to fuse into one that looks like the death star shot. (Corran Horn)

E.T. Again?
I thought I'd write this in because I was chuckling when I saw it in the theater. I'm sure some of you have already noticed this but I thought I'd write in anyway. I believe it is in the scene where Jar Jar addresses the Senate -- just before the scene cuts away there are a few shots of all the Senators shouting/making noise. If you keep watching the lower part of the screen, you'll see those "ET"-like creatures that were alse in Episode I! (Melissa)

Doug Chiang Cameo
Just after Zam crashes in the Coruscant chase scene, Anakin is chasing her down the alley. A group of people are starring at him and Doug (art director for SW2) walks in from the left, completely in focus. He's there for about two seconds before the scene changes. He's dressed in a high collared black outfit with his hair gelled up.

Cows Can Fly
Visual effects supervisor John Knoll confirms that he took one of the big cowlike creatures that Anakin Skywalker and Padm? Amidala frolic with in the fields and threw it into the asteroid belt that Obi-Wan Kenobi flies through. "If you look closely, you'll see that one of the asteroids has legs," Knoll says, laughing. (Arizona Republic)

Death of Me Line
You'll note a big laugh in the theater when Obi-Wan says to Anakin, "Why do I get this feeling that you'll be the death of me?" Why the reaction? Because that's exactly what happened in the original film (now Episode IV in the series) when Darth Vader defeated Obi-Wan in a lightsaber battle. (AZ Republic)

Millennium Falcon cameo
Lucas himself sneaked in Han Solo's famous Millennium Falcon just to the left of the screen on the ground when Anakin and Padm? dock on her home planet of Naboo. "It was a subtle homage," the director says. When Anakin and Padm? arrive on Naboo, you'll spot three Millennium Falcons in the background and at the docking station. (AZ Republic, USA Today)

Somewhere Over the Rainbow
In a romantic scene filmed at Lake Como in Switzerland, a rainbow appears behind the couple when they're getting married. "It's going to look as if we put that in with special effects," Lucas says, "but it's real." (AZ Republic)

Steve's Story
The closing credits include the reference "In Memory of Steve Bell" directly after the visual-effects credits. Producer Rick McCallum did that for the family of the talented digital artist, who died in a car accident not far from Skywalker Ranch. Bell worked on painting the starships in the Clone War battle sequences. (AZ Republic)

Qui-gon's Voice
When Yoda is meditating and Anakin is killing the Tusken Raiders, listen for the voice of Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin's old master. (USA Today)

Death Star Cameo
When the clones attack and the evil Count Dooku is fleeing Geonosis, keep an eye out for a cameo of the Death Star. (USA Today)

Flying Shaaks
The shaaks ? the cow-like creatures that are roaming Naboo ? became the butt of jokes among Lucasfilm special-effects wizards. You can find one floating in an asteroid belt, and another is on fire in the final, climactic battle scene. (USA Today)

Hidden Items in Aurabesh
During the chase scene in Coruscant, Anakin and Obi-Wan zip by different billboards with strange writing. The writing is in a style called Aurabesh and corresponds with our own alphabet. Fans with much time on their hands have already begun trying to translate them. (USA Today)

Matrix Actors in AOTC
I dont know if anyone has mentioned yet the appearance of some Matrix 1 actors in Episode 2. During the nite club scene, Obi Wan uses mind tricks on a fellow to make him reconsider his life, this is actually Matt Doran ( Mouse) the program writer on the Morpheus ship in the Matrix. Also, the Woman in Red from the training programme sequence can be cleary seen in the crowd by Annakin as he pursues the changling. Her hair is pulled up onto her head, but she is definitely the Sydney model by the name of Fiona. (Ashola69)
