The Facts

There is no Official Word on this character yet.

Adrian Dunbar appeared on THE JACK DOCHERTY SHOW on Channel 5 in Britain on 1/15/98, and made a few interesting comments about his role in the Prequels. Kevin Blackmore reported this in to us.

By the sound of things he (Adrian Dunbar) is playing Bail Organa. He said his name was Bail Oberon but when he said this he kind of mumbled it and said "or something" he said that he was really kept in the dark and wasn't told about any other part of the script or any other part of his role. He only has "A few lines in this film" He was acting in front of a blue screen ... and he has two green pig guys behind him (Gamorreans?). He said his very few lines featured around him trying to get people to "sign up to the federation". He also pointed out that George said his role will increase across the trilogy.

From the novels and comics we know that Bail Organa was the adopted father of Princess Leia, the leader of Alderaan (he died with the planet), the one of the Senators who led the failed fight against Palpatine's rise, a hero of the Clone Wars whom Obi-Wan Kenobi fought under, and one of the founders of the Rebel Alliance. Pretty important guy, huh? Well, there's no official word that we'll see him in Episode I, but with a track record like that he must show up by Episode II. Fans who dig deep enough within there stacks of Star Wars books will find this quote by George Lucas on page 291 of The Annoted Screenplays:

"The man Leia calls Father was obviously not her father. He is part of a group that ends up fighting Darth Vader in the film that will be out in 2003 [Episode III]."

Spy Reports

Valorum: Bail Organa shows up for one scene in Episode I, and may be played by Adrian Dunbar.

Other Unofficial Sources

2/2/98 - This information comes from a new informant, so take it with a grain of salt. :) Adrian Dunbar, of course, was in the British TV series "Cracker". The informant's brother worked on the series, and was able to meet Dunbar last December. At one point, Dunbar started talking about the new SW movie, and although he wouldn't say his character's name, he *did* say that his character would survive, and end up dying in the beginning of ANH. The informant suggested that this could be Owen Lars, but it sounds to me like it confirms previous information that Dunbar is playing Bail Organa. Organa, of course, died in the beginning of ANH when Alderaan was destroyed.

False Rumors

This character is not Liam Neeson's character, as was reported by some on-line sources. The likelyhood of Bail Organa being a Jedi is pretty much null, since Vader and Palpatine will be hunting down the Jedi in Episode III, and Yoda and Ben give baby Leia to Bail because she will be safe in his care. Ben might have made his mistakes, but I don't think he'd be stupid enough to hide the child with someone who the Emperor and his Dark Lord of the Sith are hunting--especially when finding the leader of a planet is easy (when that leader is not in hiding).
