Here are some contributions that are hard to categorize under one specific topic. I would like to remind you that I prefer to have separate e-mails for each topic, clearly indicating whether or not you're starting a new topic or if you're reacting on someone else. That would help me to maintain the discussion forum. I don't always have time to read the contributions myself to determine the subject... thanks!

"To all SW fans, I don't want to speculate much about E.1 or the coming prequels, all I can say about it is that I hope they present us a great story which contains all the elements that make SW a unique piece of modern Mythology. I'm not looking for a similar story or a simple movie with John Williams' music ,a SW logo in the beginning and a lot of FX. I'm hoping E.1 will make movie history as its predecessors made 20 years ago.
Reading many of the information and speculations you have printed in this web page, I have found many intelligent reviews from most of you but some are
overlooking many interesting facts that a real SW fans shouldn't fall for.

1) Padme or whatever Luke and Leia's mother is doesn't have to be necessary dead, remember that leia was very young and that she could have been told anything. We don't even know if her mother was the same person that raised her (good theory about her real mother watching her grow from a distance)

2) Has anybody notice that Jake Lloyd is 9 years old and that Natalie Portman is 16-17? Doesn't that bother any of you out there? A love triangle between a 9 year
old, a 20 year old and a 16 year old. Please don't disappoint me!.

3) Is it my imagination or does anybody have that feeling that in ANH Vader doesn't have the same power or position in the Empire as he has in ROTJ? Remember how he was treated by Imperial officers during the meeting in the Death Star, when he had to strangulate a guy to stop him from speaking about "that crazy superstition or ancient religion called Jedis or the force"? I remember that when I saw the movie for the first time I got the impression that Vader wasn't exactly the Emperors right hand, and that Tarkin and the others were really in control.(just my thoughts)

4) I think Obi Wan didn't know about Leia until he was told by Yoda in ESB.(From dialog in ESB: "No! there is another").

5) Yoda ,from a distance and Obi Wan on Tatooin were always watching after
Luke because they knew what was going to happen (from dialog in ANH by Obi
Wan and dialog from Yoda in ESB).

6) Maybe because Leia is a female the force grows in her in a different way (slower) that's why Vader nor the Emperor felt anything before, even after the
interrogation in ANH or stories of Palpatine being part of the senate as well as Leia.(This is not a sexist opinion,it is just a fact, sorry ladies) "the force is strong in my family, I have it, my father has it and my sister has it", does the mother have it?
Remember how Vader felt the force in Luke even from a distance in the Death Star's trench, another theory to this could be: that Obi Wan opened the way of the force for Luke after he was defeated by Vader in the Death Star duel and ,while his spirit was talking to Luke in the trench, Vader felt the force field surrounding Luke's X-wing.
I don't think that the force is something that can be past genetically, it's just there "it surrounds us, it penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together"

7) The best so far is: Natalie Portman being in the cast. She is the most promising star in Hollywood, beautiful, talented, intelligent, young, and so on....

8) The worst: Ewoks, Howard the Duck, new CG Jabba in ANH, Greedo's scene with Han all in GL's past. The new characters names, Tatooin again, same R2 as a hero, big deal with cloning tech.

9) My last hope: George don't listen to anybody from marketing or the toy companies and even less from the writers of all the SW garbage from these past 20 years. And no Prince Xixor please......keep the basic elements of Mythology and make a timeless movie for all generations.

"All I'm wondering is that, since Darth Vader had a voiceover in the
current trilogy, then will Darth's Maul and Sidious also have voiceovers
as well.  I've wondered to myself who would be suitable for any one of
the Sith Lords.  Sidney Poitier would be pretty cool.  His voice may not
be as powerful as James Earl Jones', but wouldn't it be nice if they did
do something like that.  I could not think of anybody else, maybe Morgan
Freeman perhaps?  Who knows.
Also another suggestion, since GL is getting JEJ to voiceover for Vader
again in Episode 3, then maybe he could do it early.  What would happen
if JEJ dies during the filming of the trilogy?  I have always liked JEJ,
I wished I never thought of the subject but it's just my opinion.  It
could be a good idea."

"Anakin is 9 years old in the first film, padme is 14 in the first
film. Obi Wan - I have no idea - is he 20 in episode one?

the love triangle stuff (if it happens) will be when Anakin is 18/20 and Padme is
24/26. Obi wan would then be 30/32. I'm not sure if the love thang
will happen though.
But I wouldn't worry about underage sex!

secondly, Darth Vader was voiced over because of his wrecked body. he
couldn't talk properly after his lungs were crushed or burnt by Obi
Wan Kenobi. The voice was artificially altered. I cannot see Darth
Maul being voiced over! And the only reason its a black voice is
because george made the faux pas of failing to cast a single black
actor in episode 4. Also, Dave Prowse has this ridiculous farmers
accent that isn't at all menacing."

"First I would like to say I am amazed at the fact that Anikan is 9 and
Padme is 14....thats a 5 year differance! Personally I don't like it
when the husband is younger than the wife, it gives me the feeling she
is taking care of him ( like an older sister:).
Any thoughts?
And another thing. I'm curious who is going to play the grown up Anikan.
If anyone has thoughts or ideas on this let me know!
Why would Lucas have Anikan younger than Padme? Beats me."

"Don't worry about the age differences.  The 9 and 14 year old facts come
from the casting sheets.  LFL was looking for actors/actresses of those
ages.  Those were not the ages of the characters.  I know Nat Portman is
15 but the reason they hired her for the part is that she can act
younger and older.  That's why they call it acting, folks!  In SW2 she
will seem older and by then the new actor for Anakin will be about her
age...hence...no problem."

"there has been some discussion about why Padme would be 14-15 while
Anakin is only 9.  Remember that Natalie Portman was chosen in part because
of her ability to look both older, and younger, than she actually is.
Moreover, if she is older than Anakin, so what?  Husbands have
traditionally been older than wives "on this planet" because they
controlled all of the money/property, but usually couldn't inherit until
their fathers passed away.  While I imagine some sexism is universal,
perhaps it doesn't reek in the SW universe."

"In responce to recent mail I would like to state that they won't be married
until ten years later, incase a few people are forgetting.  In Episode 1, the
two are probaly just friends, but as we will see in Episode 2, they have
advanced into something greater (one reason I think Anakin stays on Naboo,
because his relationship with Padme is well-developed).  They will wed with
Anakin 19 and Padme 24.  It is common for couples to wed with many year
differences, but at an older age.  Anyhow, if the Naboo race is dieing
(obvious in males), and a treatment can be taken to reduce aging, maybe Padme
is older than we thought, then again, maybe she has aged to 14, when in
reality she is 9.  There's something to ponder for a while."

"To Jom:
According to the fact that the actress who plays Padme is 14, the
character IS 14. From a source that I've forgotten the name of,I read
Portman's character is 14. Now the casting sheets were 13-14, but the
character is the age that the casting sheets require for the role."

"As far as the age difference goes, Anakin will be a warrior in Episode II. Yes
he will be about 20-22 while Padme will  be about 25. But anyone in their 20's
knows that this makes no difference. Yes, most 20-22 year olds are pretty
immature in today's world but heck, Anakin will be a Jedi. As a Jedi, he won't
want to be messing with a girl who is 18-22. Would you? Besides, do we REALLY
know that Portman's character will actually be the mother of Luke and Leia or
perhaps somehow someone claiming to be that.HMMMMMMM....."

"To JediForce:

The casting call notes are specified for the actors/actresses.  It
doesn't have anything to do with the age of the character.  Now in most
cases the actor/actress will be close to the age of the character they
play, as you stated.  But Rick McCallum (or was it Robin Gurland?) said
the reason LFL wanted Portman was that she could play both a younger AND
older character, hence Portman can be in all the movies.  The age of the
actor/actress to a certain extent is not important (over reasonable
ages), it is how the person ACTS is what is important.  That is why they
call it acting!!  I just think people are making too much of a big deal
of this age difference.  Let's wait and see what age the character
"Padme" is acted by Portman next year...:>)"
