THE PLOTLINE OF EPISODE 3

The 'Witch King' wrote: "I'm new to this site and I just read the nice story of episode 1 and I also read the discussion forum on Anakin's downfall and I just want to bring you my "newbie" opinion: "What if Padme know that she's newly pregnant is starting to feel that Anakin is turning to the darkside and get frightened because he's getting more and more aggressive (darkside indicator here !!) and hungry for power ('cause of Palpatine's growing influence on Anakin, they knew each other from the end sequence of episode #1), THEN she turns to Obi-wan for advice,he noticed that too and think it would be better for her and the kid (they don't know yet that there will be 2 of those) to hide them from Anakin so they leave together.

Anakin see that they're both not around and start looking for them , then turns back to his new mentor (Palpatine). He will greatly feed the anger (another dark-side indicator here !!!) that Anakin start to have toward Obi-wan 'cause he left with his wife.

So Obi-Wan succeed in hiding Padme from Anakin for a time and she give birth to 2 kids (a boy and a girl , no need for presentation here !). Then Obi-wan, for obvious safety reason, think it would be better to separate the kids.Padme does not agree but he finally convinced her that it's better.

So he leave Leia to his mother and he flee to Tatooine with Luke to have him raised by his uncle Owen and aunt Beru (I think either Owen OR Beru is cousin to Anakin 'cause they weren't too hot with the force and "the force is strong in my family" (Luke Skywalker quote from ROTJ) and that Owen AND Beru knew Anakin ,at least, they knew who Luke's father was (and who he is now)-->BERU: He's everything but a farmer , He's too much like his father. OWEN: yes , that's what I'm afraid of !!. Quote from ANH.).

Anyway, Obi-wan ask Owen and Beru to "keep" Luke during the time that he seek Anakin in hope of bringing him to the light side.

Anakin is not completely "dark" yet but he's with Palpatine when Obi-wan try to turn him back, and when Obi-Wan attempted to reason his friend, Anakin goes into a rage that he can't control ( well feeded by Palpatine who's right behind Anakin ).So the light saber duel start (all that in front of avery smily Palpatine) and Obi-Wan wins buy trowing him into the Lava pit ( now we can see a not so smiling Palpatine , who send his troop to save a dying Anakin).Obi-Wan think that Anakin is dead, grab Anakin's light saber and leave in the confusion that follow.

Obi-Wan goes back to Tatooine and is not welcomed at Owen's house , so he decides to keep a low profile and to stay on Tatooine so he can have an eye on Luke.

Padme hear that Anakin his dead and start rebuilding her life with Bail Organa,  Anakin is slowly recovering from the fight and Palpatine is always there to make sure that the anger toward Padme and Obi-Wan is at the most.

During the time that Anakin is making it back , Obi-Wan is called by Bail Organa to fight in the clone war against those Boba-Fett like warriors,Mandellorian warrior or something like that, sorry ;) -> remember that quote in ANH " Leia:General Kenobi , you helped my father a long time ago during the clone war blablabla"..... Then Obi-Wan comes back to watch how Luke is doing.

Then when Leia ( and Luke ) are roughly 2,(by the end of episode 3) , Anakin is fully recovered from the fight (but now wear a black suit), we haven't heared from him since the middle of episode 2,he's back to seek vengence upon Padme, and either he will kill her and Bail Organa or he will order their execution by the Empire wich has now been formed by Palpatine who proclaimed himself Emperor. Anakin is now Darth-Vader and he seeks vengence upon every Jedi knight that are still living. He thinks that Obi-Wan is dead.

THE END

A few thing we must take under consideration :

-Darth-Vader , doesn't know that Yoda exist , otherwise he would have tried to kill him  as-well. quote about Luke in ROTJ "He's not ready yet (talking to the Emperor ) ,  Obi-Wan didn't have time to train him....", in his mind ,there his no one else that  could have trained Luke.
-Obi-Wan Kenobi changed his name to Ben Kenobi in order to stay low profile (???,I would have changed my whole name in order to do that, but anyway )
-Imagine the grand finally : Darth-Vader appearing in the last minute of the 3rd movie,  with his loud James Earl Jones voice, killing Padme and Bail Organa as the ultimate act  of vengeance ......and reaching the dark side point of (almost) no return."

Or going on other speculation that they are 18 at the time of ANH we infact won't see there birth in the Prequels, unless like i said i read a false rumor and it 1-30, 2-20, 3-18.  Either way i do remember seeing somewhere that Mr. Lucus did say they would be born in episode 3 (as well as needing Mr. James Earl Jones for Lord Vader's voice).  2.) Saying that the twins are born in Episode 3 (depending on when in the movie this happens and how much time elapses) i don't beleave we will see the death of Padme, weither it's at the hands of Anakin/Vader, or this disease that is killing her people. These are just my opinions and we will just have to wait and see.

Keeping this in mind I don't think that the Birth of the twins will ever  occur in the movie, if they do then it will be _right_ at the very end  of episode 3 and we wont even see the babies. We will be under the  impression that Padme had one baby so that the whole "there is another  Sky...walk..er" scene will have the same effect.

Also, I'm not so sure that Annakin really ever knows he got Padme  pregnant, I think it is possible that he doesn't even know until the end  of ANH when he feels the force is strong in him. He puts two and two  together sometime between here and Empire and that's why all of a sudden  he is on a hardcore search. If he knew about before this point why  wouldn't he search for Luke when he was young and suseptable to the  influence of the dark side.

Maybe this is what happens in episode 3, Annakin and Padme are married  at the end of episode 2, at this point we still think Annakin is a good guy with a slightly bad attitude. During some point in Episode 3 as Annakin starts to take his wife for granted and is spending more time with Palpatine, Obi-wan and Padme have an affair. Annakin finds out about it and we find out Padme is pregnant. Annakin goes ballistic and tries to kill Obi-wan pushing him all the way to the dark side, they fight somewhere near lava and Annakin falls to his "death". Obi-wan and Padme assume that the babies are their love children and when they are born Obi-wan senses the they are not his, that's why he hides them from Vader, who Obi-wan has confrounted and sensed that he is Annakin. Padme could be in the dark the whole time and always think that the twins are  Obi-wans, even until she dies (which I don't think we will ever see).

This all sounds like an episode of Melrose Place, but I really believe this, or something like this, is what will happen. We will preserve the "Luke I am you father" scene that I have seen a million times and still get goosebumps over. Imagine if we already knew Vader was Luke's father. It would make the most climactic movie, end of Empire, totally  anti-climatic.

I'm gonna have to disagree about what we, as the audience, will know about Darth Vader by the end of SW3.  There is no question in my mind that Anakin Skywalker will be shown to be Darth Vader.  Otherwise the whole point of the prequels will be lost.  Lucas himself said that the movies will change are perception of many things.  One of these, I'm sure, is our view of Vader.  He wasn't the completely evil guy we all thought he was.

As far as ruining the end of ESB, you yourself said you still get chills watching the famous "I am your father" scene.  I agree even after seeing it many times.  So seeing this scene many times has obviously NOT made it "totally anti-climatic" for you (nor I).  So showing Vader as Anakin in SW3 is not going to ruin ESB at all.  At the same time to truly get the impact of the prequels (ie Anakin's tragic fall to the dark side) this plotline MUST be revealed to us during SW3, IMHO."

He wouldn't have to hunt down all of the Jedi, just the most important ones, and that wouldn't be too hard to do if he has council meetings with them all the time. Thus leaving the remaining Jedi in a state of disorder and confusion, which causes most of the Jedi to go into hiding (ie Yoda & Ben). Another thing...a possible death for Padme. What if seeing her once great husband's fall from grace in the early part of Ep. 3 is too traumatic for her and after the birth of her children she throws herself off of one of the imensely tall spires in the great city of Coruscant thus causing her death. One of his Jedi friends dies, and he gets really pissed off about that, etc, sees that the light side isn't all that great if it didn't keep Jedi Joe from being killed in the war (Clone Wars). He figures it's all the same- you kill a guy, it doesn't matter which side you used b/c he's still dead- so he chooses the quicker easier side. Then he says "Hey Padme, you gotta try this!" and she, being at least knowledgeable about Jedi stuff if not a Jedi herself, freaks out. Kenobi has noticed this already, and they decide it's time to haul buns. Anakin's even more pissed b/c now his teacher's stolen his wife, and this eventually leads to the kind of hatred that made Anakin want to kill him; hence, the lava duel. We see a lot of this from Anakin's POV; his friends die, his wife disappears, and the only good thing is that there's a guy who wants to help him exact revenge on those traitorous Jedi who stole his wife.

Also, remember what was going on in the Republic around this time. Politicians were corrupt, the economy was crap, crime was rampant, and the Jedi wouldn't keep their noses out of anything (they had to do something, of course, to keep it all from hitting the fan). Bean sees the Jedi a bit like the Masons; harmless, but enough secret elements in the order that people suspect them. They goof up once and that devious politician, the future Emperor (Palpatine or whatever name he's going by) and he makes the Jedis' reputation plummet by uncovering all sorts of 'scandals', many of his own design or taken way out of proportion. Vader was an idealist in a twisted sort of way; he believed what the Emperor was telling him, and that the Jedi were doing more harm than good to the universe. Palpatine was his best friend, in a way; he 'understood' what Anakin was going through, he held the same views (mostly b/c Palpatine was actually shaping them), and they knew something needed to be done. So they did it."

Remember what OB1 said "The emperor knew as I did, that Anakin had any offspring, they would be a threat to him..."  Vader, who does his master's biding goes to retrieve his children.  OB1 fearing what could happen, takes, Luke to Owen, and Leia to Bail.  Anyway Vader, never found his kids, but he did find his wife, Padme, when Vader confront Padme asking were the kids are, Padme refuse to tell him, and Vader kills her in a violent rage, making his change to the dark side complete.

As for Luke and Leia, Vader never found them, because they weren't trained in the ways of the force.  This would explain why Vader never sensed that Leia was his daughter, in ANH.  Luke however, was just learning the force, so therefore Luke was able to be detected by Vader.  Well that's the way I see things.  Now we just have to wait and see who's right."

Anthony Renaud wrote: "Concerning Secret Squirrel's statement that "seeing a 15-year old Han in Episode 3 should surprise no one", well let me say that it would surprise the hell outta me.  Look at the Annonymous One's list of things that are to go on in Episode 3 (the list of stuff we know must go on, not the 'will we see' fanboy stuff).  Already, that is a lot of ground to cover, and these are, after all, the stories of Anakin, Padme and Obi-wan, not Han, Luke and Leia.  Their story is Episodes 4-6.  To include any development involving them, the bounty hunters, or any other of the myriad of characters introduced in the post-ROTJ novelizations and comics would result in the spreading too thin the available story telling time.  That's why Lucas said we won't see the childhood of Luke Skywalker, but rather only his birth near the end of Ep. 3.  His story is later.
As for this story, there are a lot of questions to be answered, most of which, I predict, wil be answered but not shown.  They will be alluded to, explained in dialogue, but not actually seen.  For example, the extermination of the Jedi.  Such an event would take years to accomplish, and cannot be shown in its entirety.  I'm sure we will see a few examples, but the rest will be left off screen, with a simple understanding that it DID take place, and it was largely successful. Also, the fate of the Sith Lords, and why is Darth Vader the only one left?  Again, if they are to be around for the extermination of the Jedi, their own fate must be left unseen, but perhaps not unexplained. A simple expository of Palpatine's plans to exterminate them after the jedi would be all it takes, provided a suitable explanation of Vader's apparent lack of concern over that plan.

So the story that will be shown will be that of Padme, Anakin, and Obi-wan, against the backdrop of Palpatine's seizure of the Galaxy. That's already a lot of story to be told. And the birth of the twins will be right near the end.  Why?  Because they represent the seed of hope for the Galaxy.  As the prequel trilogy draws to a close, ending in tragedy, sorrow and heartbreak, we will be left with one shining light of hope.  Think of it in contrast to the typical story of the good guys vanquishing the bad guys, or the big scary monster, but the last scene you're left with image that the evil hasn't been totally vanquished (see Flash Gordon, Species, and countless others).  In those terms it's somewhat cliche, but Lucas makes it fresh by allowing Evil to triumph, and we are left with the birth of the twins which represent our "New Hope".  Now I'm not saying it'll be the last image we see (I believe that to be Ben leaving Luke at Owen's and heading off into the desert), but it will be occur at the end."

To R2 Unit:  It is very possible the "lava" scene could dropped.  But it is also possible that Ben actually being the one who creates Anakin's injuries could also be dropped.  Remember both of these plot references came from the ROJ novel, they were NOT in the movie.  Anything can happen."

Mathieu Valier wrote: "In order to properly figure out the storyline of the prequels, we need a proper timeline. This is my take on the story. Do understand this is purely speculation on my part.

I see Episode 1 occuring 30 before ANH because Ben seems to be about 65 and if he were any older, I don't care strong in the Force he is, he could not get around that large column in the Death Star. Plus, Darth Vader seems to fit as a 39 year-old.

Episode 2 occurs 10 years later, as stated by Lucas and McCallum. I believe we will see the marriage of Padme and Anakin in the very begining of this episode. The conception of the twins occurs shortly there after. Anakin then goes off for the Clone Wars with Ben, not knowing that his wife is pregnant. This separation will help hide the pregnacy from him. Along the way, Anakin meets our friend the Emperor. Anakin's fall to the dark side begins.

At the end of the movie the twins are born. Ben is given Luke and Leia is hidden from Anakin and Ben by Yoda. (If you remember correctly, in ESB as Luke is leaving Dagobah: Ben: "He is our only hope." Yoda: "No. There is another." This indicates Ben had no idea about Leia.) After the twins are hidden, Anakin and Ben have their fight on the volcano and we see the Emperor take over. End Episode 2.

Episode 3 begins 2 years later. We have a new enemy. Darth Vader. We are told (and assume) Anakin has died. (This keeps the continuity for ESB.) The twins are 2 years old (allowing Leia to have a sort of memory of her mother) and Padme dies. The Jedi Purge is now in full swing. We will probably see the beginings of what will be the Rebellion. The movie ends with hardly any closure. The Empire rules and the Jedi no longer exist. Ben goes into hiding, all the while watching Luke.

Fast forward 18 years. ANH begins. The twins are now 20 years old. Continue on as usual.

I really don't think the Emperor has any idea Luke and Leia exist. Vader certainly doesn't have a clue until ESB. The reason Ben and Yoda watch Luke, I feel, is to restore the Jedi. That was their main plan. And they did exactly what they had planned to do.

Episodes 2 and 3 are in GL's head and in his safe at home. Until he removes them, we won't know what the hell is going on. I believe what I have said has some plusability, but I know I am most likely all wrong. We shall see."

Regarding Han Solo. We won't see him either. This is the story of The Skywalker Family. Not the Solos. Han is a very important character in 4-6, but his story and actions only suppliment the story of Luke and Leia. Showing him as a young kid/teenager, won't add any signficance to the new trilogy. As much as we as fans would like to see it, this is the same as The Biggs' scenes in A New Hope. They will add no value or substance to the story. The story has to progress, and showing Han Solo's background would just divert from the story.

Same with Boba Fett. Altbough, like Jabba..Boba Fett will most likely appear in a SUPPORTING role. Having Han Solo show up for a brief cameo, would add no substance to the story.  However, Boba Fett could play an important role in Hunting down The Jedi. More than likely we won't see the background of his development, as he is a supporting character. Delving too far into his past, would certainly distract from the story.

The New Characters Lucas has created for the trilogy will take the place of the ones that we have grown to love from the original. I however do see a different tone being set in this trilogy. Honestly, I see Anakin being the "Han Solo" of the new trilogy. The Early Drafts of "Annakin" (who became Luke in the Later drafts) has him being Reckless and impulsive, just like Anakin is. He is the one that "gets the girl", like Han. While I don't think we'll see a lot of Solo qualities in Anakin, I do believe we'll see more of Han in Anakin than in Kenobi.

Jar-Jar, I don't think will be a clone of Chewbacca. I think that's the last thing Lucas would want is for fans pointing at each character and saying oh that's Chewbacca, oh That's Lando...etc

We'll definitely see new alien Races, but they won't be like anything else we've seen. No "Ewok-like" characters etc. We will see the Sand People no doubt..I mean how can they show Tattoine for that much of the story without us seeing them?"

A better reason though is that Shadows was THE Starwars event of 95 - 96, it had a considerable amount of the Starwars marketing machine behind it - CD's and Kenner figures, so I think that Lucasfilm felt that showing the swoops and the Outrider would make them a solid part of SW canon... rather than some kind of fringe elemant that lots of us try really hard to forget - Witches of Dathomir anyone?"

Well, in hindsight, this line refers (of course?) to Leia.  But if it does, why doesn't Ben know it in the first place.  Either this means that Ben didn't know about Leia's existence, that he is a chauvenist and thinks the little princess could take on the Emperor, or he just forgot to mention it for drama's sake (he DOES brief Luke on the subject in RoTJ).  I prefer to speculate that Ben indeed does not know who Leia is.  This could set up an interesting dynamic between Yoda and Ben, where Yoda, seeing Ben's failure in training Anakin, doesn't "trust" him with the knowledge that Padme gave birth to twins.  Perhaps there is a joint (and separate) effort, one by Ben, the other by (Yoda? Bail Organa? Mace Windu?) to get the twins to safety.  But, regardless of this, I think it would be great if Lucas gave creedence to this choice of words, and made Ben unaware of the fact that Padme was pregnant with twins.  But within the storyline, he should have been able to "sense" the twins.  Perhaps he belives (or sees) that Leia died?"

I agree, and I have an explanation for this wherein Ben could still have known about Leia from the beginning. Remember that by the time of ESB, Luke has been studying the Force for three years and has had some training from Yoda.  I would assume that Yoda knew that his time was almost over (as he did die in ROTJ...only a few months later in LFL time) and Ben may have thought Yoda would not have time to train Leia from scratch before he died.  This would be especially important if Luke fell to the dark side, quite possibly leaving Leia two dark jedi to deal with.  In that context, it is easy to see how Ben might have thought Luke their only hope.  Apparently Yoda disagreed."

However, bear in mind that Lucas has already used at least one piece of novel continuity instead of his own idea - the name of the planet Coruscant, courtesy of Tim Zahn. Thrawn, Pellaeon and Mara Jade are all possible prequel/sequel candidates, and Xisor might turn up, though I hope not. Then there are the random plot-points - the Dagobah Cave and the Bfasshi Dark Jedi - that have no bearing on anything, unless it's the prequels."
