Nathaniel Reed wrote: "It would be really great if Padme could be Jedi-trained or be in training, especially since the Skywalker family, "strong in the force", was quite a powerful and influential line. Her death ... it's got to be in the story, and it's got to be Vader that kills her ( a duel would be good ) - he has no emotion or feelings anymore, he does his Master's bidding, she could be a feared Jedi, she is one of the few who would be able to guess Vader's identity. And since Leia remembers her ( an important line, ROTJ would've been no different if it *hadn't* been delivered ) then she dies sometime in episode 3. Her role in *2 and *3 is important ; I hope she maintains a high profile, rather than be 'tagging along' or be being rescued, in *1. The twins' birth ... I agree, like TESB ending on an up-beat of sorts, after the magnificent duel and 'death' of Anakin, the film could end 'quietly', with hope, with the birth. After all, at this point in time, friend has been pitted against friend, the Republic is crumbling, and Palpatine is succeeding. As Padme christens her children, Obi-Wan would return with Luke's heirloom safely in his hands. HOWEVER, I've just had a thought : ( as referred to by a contributor ) the official timeline released in interviews, and visualised by the SW Insider, states Ep *1 at 40 years before ANH, Ep *2 10 years later at 30 years before, and Ep *3 two years on. Since we know Luke and Leia are 18 - 20 in ANH, *how* can we see their birth ?! Has the official word been wrong ? Or been a red herring ? I personally think we should see these important events. If the prequels are not nudged along 10 years, there could be a tableaux epilogue .... A magazine last year picked up on the "familiar place" feeling of Luke's, and suggested that Dagobah is en route to Tatooine. I like the idea, anyway. " |

death. Aparently Episode's 2 and 3 are set 22 and 20 years before
A New Hope. If this is the case, the twins would have to be born
DURING Episode 3, because Luke is cetainly NOT 22 years old in A New Hope
(I actually thought he was more like 18). He is obviously now 20
years old in A New Hope. Now if Padme was to die during the same
episode as the twins were born, it would seem to be very hard for Leia
to remember her. After all, Leia would only be a few days old ! Nevertheless,
I still think Padme dies in episode 3.

JEV wrote: "To ZAC: I agree with you, Padme will likely die in the third movie, or at least, will be dying of some uncurable illness, which will leave not doubt that her death is imminent. Maybe, after leaving Luke to Ben and Leia to Bail Organa, she goes of and tries to bring her husband back to the Light, like it has been speculated on this site by someone else. And knowing that she is probably the only person who could suceed at this point, Palpatine might have her eliminated by another dark jedi or by is troops. This would insure that Darth Vader will remain Vader, since not even is best friend and mentor, Obi-wan could turn him back. What do any of you think of this?" |

JOM wrote: "To ZAC: I see what you are saying here. You think GL had already knew he was going to show Padme death but he still had to debate whether Leia remembered her. Right? But you have to keep in mind this "Debate" happened 15 years ago while writing ROJ. Lucas could have changed things since then. There is no reason why he couldn't have Padme's death after the end of SW3. It would still fit in. Actually, it would make more sense, given that Leia remembers her. I don't buy the "images" and "feeling" thing. A baby wouldn't remember that either. She has to be old enough to remember something. But who knows, that is just my opinion. The one thing I absolutely don't agree with is that Vader kills Padme. I don't think she will be murdered at all, whether it is in SW3 or after. There is NOTHING in Leia's talk with Luke in ROJ that suggests a violent death for her. Leia implied she died a sad person, this does NOT suggest any vilolence whatsoever. Ain't gonna happen." |

Gonk wrote: "To base that Padme will not die until years after the birth of the twins is pure conjecture. These are not ordinary children we are talking about with Luke and Leia- they are strongly endowed with the Force. Might not this sensitivity enable them to feel and remember other things the normal person would never remember? The Force does much more than let you dance around and carry a handy lightsaber. Not to mention, to leave Padme alive at the end of Episode three leaves a MAJOR loose end. If she survived, we would have undoubtedly seen her in part IV, because if you watched it all in sequence, you would really feel deprived that Padme was no longer there. You can't just go from scene to scene in a play, take out a main character off-stage and not expect the audience to object unless you have the other characters reacting to her death. To have her just suddenly disappear and then say three episodes later...."oh yeah, by the way- she's dead" completely throws off the whole story. Since Padme is an integral character, her fate MUST be resolved, and I'm not sure why there are so many people that believe it has to be otherwise, because it doesn't make much sense to the storyline. I don't want to make any assumptions on other fans and what they're like, but with the current overall 'happy' feel of the SW films, I'm wondering if most of its fans, who love these movies, just do not want to see the young queen character die because it would be entirely melancholy and a real downer (Remember, we are living in the age where Disney makes animated re-makes that are ten times lighter then their subject matter)." |

Anthony Renaud wrote: "Concerning what ZAC wrote. Yes, Lucas debated whether or not Leia would remember Padme. But your inferrence that it was because Padme dies while Leia is really young, and Lucas was debating whether a baby of that age would remember her mother doesn't necessarily hold. It could be that Lucas was actually debating when Padme dies. Does she die just after the twins are born and therefore Leia doesn't remember her, or does she die at a later point, after her and Leia have had some serious bonding time. One would imply that she definitely dies during the 3rd movie, just after the twins are born, and the other implies that she may in fact live beyond the end of the third movie. As Nathaniel Reed suggested, we may get a tableaux epilogue, and that could cover several years, explaining her death without it being a major event of the third movie. Also, I have to agree with JOM, that even if she does die, Vader isn't the one who kills her. IF that happened, no one would have any sympathy for Anakin afterwards. No one would care that he redeems himself in the end, no one would cheer his return from the dark side. There would be nothing but pure emnity for Vader. Vader never did anything so repulsive that people actually hated him, like we did the Emperor. We all had to have that feeling that there was 'some good left in him'. He was a bad ass, but not completely evil. Because we would never have been able to forgive him like Luke did in Return, which was necessary for us to enjoy the ending. Man, I still get moist eyes when I seem him die. IF he kills Padme, that would never happen again." |

James wrote: "I think that when JOM said, " Leia implied she died a sad person" ,its almost like saying that Padme kills herself. I obviously don't know how she does it but I still think it sure would be dramatic to see her take a step off of one of those huge spires on Coruscant. Oh, and as for Leia remembering her very vaugly I think that makes perfect sense. She must have spent alot of time with Leia for however long she had her, and as a future embassador Leia would have to have an excellent memory, thus making it plausible that she remembers Padme." |

Streen Bean can see the Emp's lackeys doing her in to make sure she doesn't confront Vader, it makes some sense. Of course, given the Emperor's vindictiveness he may just have hated her for some reason and killed two birds with one stone." |

As for the person that said that there's a problem w/ not showing her die in Episode III, I don't think so because for all we knew she could have died along w/ Bail Organa when Alderaan Blew up in ANH. No one knew in '77 or '80 that Vader would be Luke's father and in '83 that Leia would be his sister, not even the actors knew, only George Lucas did. Only he knows how she will die, and to say that Leia remembers her as a new born because she is Force sensitive is bull cause Luke's powers were stronger then hers so why wouldn't he have images and feelings of her too. I don't beleave we will get any closure on how she dies because it does't quite jell w/ the birth." |

That *she* is responsible, guilty because she was unfaithful ?" |

James wrote: "To HanSolo206: Think about it, Padme is obviously not killed in the Alderaan explosion. If she lived on Alderaan don't you think that Leia would have visited her at least once while she was with Bail Organa? Leia very, very, obviously spent time on Alderaan or else she would not have been so distraught when they destroyed the planet. I am absolutly 100% sure that Padme will die near the end of Episode 3, it makes perfect sense. And as for having an epilogue at the end explaining that she dies which was brought up by someone else, I think that Lucas would have to want pretty badly to be called a hack to do that. The epilogue idea has absolutely no emotional resonance, thats why I am so sure that we will see her die in Ep. 3." |

Hansolo206 wrote: "To James: You obviously misunderstood. I said "because for all we knew she could have died along w/ Bail Organa when Alderaan Blew up in ANH." But there really wasn't anything that was said that she was dead until ROTJ when Leia Said that she died when she was very young. Yes Leia did live there if you've ever heard the Audio tapes of ANH there are parts where she has conversations w/ Bail Organa and where she kills the Imp. who tells her about the Death Star. Everyone wants to see Padme Die but I recall someone saying that the twins are born near the end of Episode III so it doesn't fit in." |

JOM wrote: "It has been rumored that Padme is from a dying race. Maybe it will be established during the trilogy that her race doesn't live long. So at the end of SW3 it will be assumed she doesn't live long afterwards. This is the only solution I could come up with to solve what seems to be a contradiction of having her die before Leia is old enough to remember her. As far as Padme being sad, I think that having Ben take her son away from her certainly isn't going to make anyone happy. |

HanSolo 206 wrote: "To Gonk: Possible but not likely for 2 reasons 1.) Ben "was amazed at how stong the force was w/ Anakin" because of the things he is rumored to have done and that was before he had any training. So if Leia was more powerful, Vader would have felt it with her training or not. 2.) Ben most likely knew which twin is going to be more powerful at birth and that is why he stayed close to Luke so he could begin his training when he was old enough. If Leia was the one don't you think he would have stayed closer to her instead?" |

Gonk wrote: "With the Force, I don't think one can simply say: "This one's more powerful than this one" where two people as closely connected as Luke and Leia are concerned. Leia perhaps is more acute in some areas where Luke is not, like the novels suggest (ACK! Did I actually just PRAISE the novels! ACK! Wash my throat out!). Perhaps Luke is better at physical, duel type things, and Leia has more of a mental capacity. It's not like it would be a rigid structure- this is the flowing force we're talking about here. Not to mention, I don't think Vader would have sensed it. I think Innate abilities would be harder to detect if you weren't looking for them- which Ben obviously would be." |
