THE HUTTS IN THE PREQUELS

There are certain things that might be worth exploring, such as what Jabba's doing on Tatooine, his connection with the jedi("He's using an old jedi mind trick!")and his relationship with Boba Fett and possibly the Mandalorians."

Do you remember how I made a picture of a female Hutt, Sebulba, being present at the Pod Race? I thought that the name 'Sebulba' sounded very Huttese... I deleted the picture, because I heard that Sebulba would be some street-punk, and the main competition for Anakin in the Pod Race. But I'm still not completely convinced: why does a street punk own a cafe (we know that there is a location called 'Sebulba's Cafe')? That seems a bit unlikely to me....

For ILM it should be relatively easy to make such a clan of Hutts, because they already have the CG Jabba in their computers. They'd only have to alter it a bit, add some digital hair.... Hair? Yes, hair!!! I was reading the novelization of ROTJ last night when an interesting phrase struck me (it's the first description of Jabba in the novel): "He had no hair - it had fallen out from a combination of diseases". Interesting, isn't it? Personally, I'd love to see Sebulba as a female Hutt, WITH hair!! The interaction between her and Jabba could be very funny too: the future crime-lord being bullied by Sebulba, his wife/girl-friend!"

Personally, I sincerely hope that this is one the many so called "truths" of the SW Universe that GL does away with in the Prequels.  Is it just me, or does a whole race of people (which inhabit more than one planet) that are crime lords seem a little, um, disproportional?  How many crime lords are there in the Universe (and we "know" the wonderful Black Sun led by Guri *shudder* and Xizor *double shudder at the thought of pheremones*  also lead a huge crime syndicate)?  How bad of a job was the Empire doing in controlling crime?  And as to Boba Fett and the Mandalorian's relationship to Jabba (and/or the Hutts) I similarly hope that Fett is shown to have no connection whatsoever with the Mandalore or Jabba.  He was just a bounty hunter for heaven's sake!!!  Perhaps Jabba's favorite, but he hunted for other people too!!  Give the poor guy a break.  Forgive me, but he really didn't play a big part in the movies!  I hope that the Mandalorians have no connection with Jabba at all, and that Boba Fett was just a bounty hunter.

As for Roderick's comments, no I think it would be crappy to see a whole bunch of "crime lord Hutts."  Since Tatooine is described as a planet orbiting the star farthest from the center of the galaxy (a.k.a. waaaaaay out there), the idea of more than one crime lord (a.k.a.  Lady Valorian *gag*) on Tatooine makes me feel sick.  As for the CG of Jabba, I hope they work on that a WHOLE lot if they are going to use it in the Prequels.  Maybe it was just me, but I thought it was actually a pretty lousy job, but OK considering what they had to work with."

Dan Steigerwalt wrote: "It seems inevitable that the Hutts are going to be in the prequels.  Judging by Lucas' love for them, and his addition of Jabba in the SW:SE, I don't think they will be excluded.  It will be cool to see a mafia-like Hutt clan that probably will cause some major problems for the new heroes.  The thought of showing  a young Jabba is very likely indeed.  A quote from Jabba to Luke in the novelization of ROTJ may show his possible participation in the Jedi extermination - "I was killing your kind when being  a Jedi meant something." The Hutts in league with the Mandalorians?  Again very possible, and it could be foreshadowed by Fett's relationship with Jabba in 4-6.  No matter what, I hope they are there.  They are memorable characters who will add depth to the new series."
