DARTH SIDIOUS

"Does Darth Sidious exist? No-one is down anywhere as being in the  cast for him. He has to be a character in part 2 of some stature  because Palpatine is likely to come into contact with him, if they're  not one and the same anyway. Is this just a fictional character? Probably not as www.darthsidious.com exists and links to the main  page of www.starwars.com  This really annoys me. Anyone help? what role will this character play? Is Darth Maul a Vader like minion? Why were Darth Sidious and Darth Maul replaced by The Emperor and Darth Vader and who instigated the change?"

"To Jamie:

The only thing we have heard about Sid is that he appears has a hologram
and Maul and Nute Gunray report to him.  Whether or not he is related to
Palpatine is only speculation that is obviously brought on because of
the "hologram" similarities.  So I'll add my bit of speculation.
Sidious is one of three things:

1)      Sidious is a cover for Palpatine before the movie is released.  The
hologram guy will be shown to the audience as Palpatine in SW1.

2)      To the audience Sid and Palp are two different people.  Until
somewhere down the road (SW2?) Palp is reveled to be the Sid character
from SW1.

3)      Sid and Palp ARE two different people.  What happens here is anyone's
guess."

"this is my theory that I devised about Darth Sidious that I have put
up elsewhere on the Net over the last week.

as Jom says, to the audience we will be faced with Senator Palpatine,
a middleaged politician from Naboo. He is immensly proud of his home
planet, and feels that Chancellor Valorum doesn't do enough for it.
He also greatly admires his own Queen, but she happens to be killed
in a kind of accident, thus bringing in her very young daughter as the
new queen. Of course, Palpatine will support her just as he did her
mother.

>>>Darth Sidious may have ordered the killing of the Queen, carried
out by Darth Maul or even Nute Gunray. Why would he do that? Maybe
the Queen is a very strong Queen. Perhaps Sidious wanted her out of
the way to bring in the child who might prove to be a bad ruler.

Senator Palpatine is on the outside very unassuming and unambitious.
He has no real desires other than to get the best for Naboo in the
Senate. He believes this belief will further his career. We may even
see him within his chambers practicing a kind of black magic but that
will be it.
>>>Maul will attack Naboo on the orders of Sidious. He won't actually
be seen at all.

Part 2 and Maul is killed. Sidious needs a new dog. He cannot
approach someone to replace him as DS, so he adopts the guise of
Palpatine. This won't happen to Ep2 and will be one hell of a shock."

"The average Star-Wars fan is probably not as fanatical about it as most of us
are. Lucas wants to make something that will appeal to a mass audience. I
don't think he will want to do anything that will "go completely over the
heads of casual fans". Therefore I believe that the theory "Someone else
assumes the identity of Senator Palpatine" to be too complex for the causual
fan. So that would leave the theory that they are the same person or two
different people. I think Fans are going to want to know how "The Emperor"
became so powerful. Perhaps he will be taught by Sideous and then destory his
own Master later on in the second film, just prior to usurping Power. That in
a sense would forshadow his own death at the hands of his own servant Darth
Vader..."

"at the risk of repeating myself,

There is no known actor to play sidious, therefore it must be
someone in the cast already.
We never really see Sidious in the film apparently, allowing for
his identity to be a secret.
Palpatine doesn't become that powerful. Who says he isn't already.
He will only be discovered using force potential, and that could be
masked by having another dark lord as a henchman, ie darth maul.
I was reading somehting in a Star Wars mag about the annotated
screenplays, and it was saying how Lucas never cans an idea. One
particular idea is the search for Force enhancer Kaiburr Crystal.
(forget splinter of the minds eye). This would for sure enhance the
power of Palpatine. Perhaps the Clone Wars will revolve around the
Jedi trying to find it before Palpie does."
