ALIENS IN THE PREQUELS

Jeremy Lamont wrote: "people are overlooking a very integral part of what the Empire really WAS. The Emperor, during his reign, was very cruel to "alien" species. (that's putting it mildly) Everyone talks about his overall relationship to the Jedi and to the Rebellion and to all the main characters, but what about the common people? Many colony worlds and even a few HOMEWORLDS were laid waste by the New Order and the military power under its control. "Bifurcation manifolds" and "site modifications" and "state changes" and "shock vectors." Millions and millions (perhaps BILLIONS) of sentient beings were quietly (maybe not-so-quietly?) slaughtered in numbers unheard of. Surely this had some effect on galactic politics."

I feel certain that we will see the emperor's reign of terror, as he solidifies power by force (shades of Stalin and Hitler?) and picks his political/social/religious scapegoats to slaughter , enslave or oppress (the jewish people, people of color?). The themes here are very powerful.  Not only will they deepen the story, but they will fit in with GL's penchant for allegory.  And as the defenders of the lightside, no doubt many Jedi will be martyred hiding Imperial victims/refugees/trying to help them escape long before Palpatine and Vader begin their Jedi purge.

I believe GL when he says that the prequels will be very dark.  I'm sure that each movie will be a great time that dazzles the senses.  But behind the great FX, the Williams' music, the love story and friendship of the main characters, the underlying themes will be uncomfortably familiar.  There will be a lot for the critics and fans alike to chew on."

Nathaniel Reed wrote: "The multi-cultural war of Yugoslavia, and the military exploitation by Metternich of the diverse inhabitants of the Austrio-Hungarian Empire, might provide a historical echo to 'ethnic cleansing' found in the decay of the Old Republic and the tyranny of the New Order. What makes the SW Saga so mythically resonant are the cultural and historical analogies found in our societies."

"Regarding Aliens in the prequels:We've already seen Quarren,
Pacithhip, Klatoonian, Rodian and Ithorians. Both the Quarren and the
Ithorian look slightly different than the originals. This made me think that
the Nimoudians are actually Duros-it was stated in the Star Wars Insider #36
introduction that a cantina creature was going to be given a major part-
and, judging by the rumors,Duros seem to be it. In the novels, Duros seem to
be mostly smugglers-possibly due to being impoverished by a war?
Some other unanswered questions about some of the Aliens:
How can Jabba withstand the Force? Is he simply strong-minded or is
he like a Ysalmari from the books?
What are the sandpeople, exactly? Are they related to the tusken
clans in the Lucasarts games?
What made Palpatine so afraid of them?
Were Wookies slaves during the Old Republic as well as during the empire?"

"John Maier quoted from SW Insider #36 that a Catina creature from ANH
would be given a major part in the prequels.  He speculated that it
would be the Duros since they sort of fit the description of the
Nimoudians.  The fact that they have different names would seem to rule
that out.  I would think that the major part would be given to the new
creature that was added to the Cantina scene, the one who may be a
member of Jar-Jars race, or possibly a Gungan (unless Jar-Jar IS a
Gungan).  Why else would they add a new alien to the Cantina scene.  I
have attached the picture, although you have probably already seen it."
