A
new Hutt in town!
Trailer
shows first glimpse of female Hutt?
The
next couple of updates will be devoted to the new trailer. I will post
some enhanced trailer pictures, like the one above, comment on some of
the scenes, show comparisons with pictures I made for the Virtual Edition
and hopefully give some inside information about what the trailer shows.
I'll
start with the scene in which we see a 40 years younger Jabba the Hutt
enter his box in the Mos espa Arena. This small fragment shows some interesting
details.
-
First
of all, Jabba looks indeed younger than the Jabba from ANH SE. He appears
to be a bit slimmer and he's a bit greener too. The expression on his face
somehow reminds me a bit of Boris Yeltsin! :)
-
On his
right side, we see what looks like a much younger Bib Fortuna!
-
Next to
Bib Fortuna, we see a female dancer with blue hair. She might be of the
same species as the red-haired dancer in the Special Edition of ROTJ. She
wears the same slave outfit that Leia will wear more than 40 years later!
-
On the
ledge of Jabba's box, we see a few frogs hopping around. Since we know
that these frogs are Jabba's favorite snack, I wouldn't be surprised if
we'll see Jabba trying to catch one of these small creatures (there is
supposed to be a hilarious scene involving Jabba and a small animal - one
of George Lucas' favorite scenes in the movie).
-
On the
left and the right side of the box we see two armed guards, who's presence
indicates that Jabba is not loved by every inhabitant of Mos Espa.. They
look similar to Jabba's guards in ROTJ. I don't see any Gamoreans though.
-
In the
shadows behind Jabba, I can see at least three other persons; the one on
the left is female.
-
But most
important of all: we catch a first glimpse of another Hutt, just visible
for a few frames on Jabba's left side. I think that this might very well
be the female Hutt I told you about more than a year ago! Could it be Gardulla,
the previous owner of Shmi and Anakin? Take a look at these virtual versions
of her, the first of which I posted as early as November 27 1997 (!), compared
to an enlarged portion of the scene from the trailer:

Some
of you wrote me with some very interesting observations about this scene:

The blue-haired
girl can't be the same species as Rystal (the dancing girl from ROTJ SE)
be cause she was the only known member of her species.
-
There
is an R5 unit to Jabba's far right (our left)
-
The guard
on our right is a Nikto, and the one on the left looks a bit like a Weequay.

I agree,
Jabba looks younger and slimmer here than in ANH, and he moves much better
as well. More realistically, I believe.
-
It's just
a Twi'lek. There's no real way to prove that he is in fact Bib Fortuna
until we see the movie and/or read the novelization or receive word from
a trusted spy, and I find it highly unlikely that he is Bib. Just refer
to him as a Twi'lek. Much safer. :)
-
When I
first saw the slave girl with the blue hair I immediately formed the same
conclusion as you did, that she was of the same species as Rhystall, that
near-human dancer in RotJ:SE.
-
They're
not frogs, they look a lot more like the nunas of Naboo, but of course
they're not. If you watch them closely, you'll see that as Jabba nears,
the one closest to him hops away from him. That's already funny. :)
-
I recognized
the two guards as well (at least one of them was in the Vanity Fair photo
spread too). That's something...
-
In trailer
A, I noted that a Hutt is visible in a box similar to, but not the same
as, the one in which we see Jabba.
there
isn't really such a thing as a female or male Hutt, per se. In the Han
Solo Trilogy, by Ann C. Crispin, she explains that they are hermaphrodites,
and that they are capable of self-fertilization and spontaneous sex-changes.
If you've seen and/or read JURASSIC PARK, you know what I'm talking about.
