We've had a roller coaster of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 rumors over the past few years ranging from rumblings of an online console version to flat out leaked pictures from the now defunct studio Free Radical Design.
Well the end of 2011 brings with it new hopes of the fabled Battlefront 3. So, from where is this new round of speculation originating? We first spotted an article at GameInformer.com that noted the possibility that developer Spark Unlimited could be working on the project. The evidence cited includes wording on a Spark job listing site that states the following:
"We are in production on an unannounced high-profile, popular game sequel for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release."
While that is rather vague, GameInformer.com further cites that Spark Unlimited will not confirm or deny (with emphasis on the lack of a denial) that the game in question could be Star Wars: Battlefront 3. We've sent an inquiry over to LucasArts and will surely let you know what we hear back.
Adding fuel to the fire, GWTOR.com noticed that a week earlier Game Informerhad teased that their next magazine cover, to be unveiled on January 5th, would be a major surprise announcement. Looking a little further back, GWTOR.com remembered that GameInformer.com had posted a "Star Wars: Battlefront III Wish List" back in August of 2011. Foreshadowing perhaps?
That's the sum total of it for now. Is all of this coincidental? Is the evidence thin and merely speculative? Could there be a little bit of weight to the rumors? Do we have the tendency to grasp at straws when the latest rumors surrounding a franchise we love pop up? The answers: possibly, possibly, possibly, and absolutely!
As always, we'll keep you posted as we hear more. But for now, all of this falls in the "rumors we wish were true" catagory.
