a native of Calius Saj Leeloo, on the planet Berchest, Riij joined the Alliance about a year after the Battle of Yavin. He fled his homeworld after the Empire conscripted his brother and several of his friends. His escape ship turned out to be owned by a smuggler running guns to the Alliance, and Riij decided to join up. He was stationed on Tatooine, and posed as one of the two jailers located in Mos Eisley. It was there that he discovered the ruse put on by Shada D'ukal and Karoly D'ulin, who tried to impersonate the Tonnika Sisters. He linked them to the unidentified Strike Cruiser that they landed in the Dune Sea, and agreed to help them get the Hammertong off Tatooine. When he discovered that the Hammertong was a piece of the Death Star, he begged them to let him keep it, but they refused. He kept their astromech droid as the price of their promise not to give the weapon back to the Empire. He then fled Tatooine aboard the Hopskip.
