Rumor: Jar-Jar Binks To Return In The Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

Star Wars Kenobi Jar Jar Binks

With no new feature-length films for almost three years, looks like immediate future of Star Wars will fall on the shoulders of Disney+. From The Mandalorian, Season 7 of The Clone Wars, to the Cassian Andor show, the streaming service will be the place to get your Star Wars fix for the foreseeable future.

The most anticipated series for many, is the still-unnamed Obi-Wan Kenobi series. With Ewan McGregor set to return to the role and directed by the incredibly talented Deborah Chow, it looks to have everything you need to tell a compelling story.

Now, if Leaker-In-Chief Jason Ward of Making Star Wars is to be believed, Kenobi isnít the only prequel character to make his return. If youíve had a Gungan shaped hole in your heart, itís about to be filled because Jar-Jar is back, apparently.

Hereís what Jason is hearing about his return...

ďIím told ďBenĒ Kenobi crosses paths with his old friend from Naboo, Jar Jar Binks. Early work has been conducted for the CGI Gunganís return to Star Wars. Jar Jar has a beard to reflect where heís been and what his life has been like since they were all deceived by a great lie that ushered in the first Galactic Empire.Ē

A bearded Jar-Jar?!?! As a fan of the prequels, Iíve always loved that pesky Gungan and thought most of the criticism levelled his way was just ad hominem at best.

I love the idea of a bearded and more reflective Jar-Jar, especially since we saw what Chuck Wendig did with him in Aftermath. I think itís a really interesting idea to take a comical character like Jar-Jar and portraying him in a more sombre light. Heís more than capable of self-reflection and I think it can work well, and as far as Ahmed Best returning to the role, Ward seems to think so...

ďIt isnít confirmed that Ahmed Best is returning as Jar Jar Binks. Iím assuming and hoping he is. Best has opened up about his struggles with depression and suicide in the aftermath of the media backlash he was forced to endure by the media and the worst fans. Best voiced Jar Jar in all but one episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and it wasnít the same without Best.Ē

I agree with Jason here, if youíre going to bring back Jar-Jar, you have to bring back Best as well. After all his struggles with fan backlash and his appearance at Celebration last year, I think it would be such a welcome sight to have him back. Heís a wonderful performer and a true ambassador of Star Wars, he should be part of a series again.

Without knowing anything about the story of the series, Iím not quite sure how Jar-Jar would factor into the plot. Is Obi-Wan leaving Tatooine? Is Jar-Jar making his way to the desert planet? Only time will tell.

If this is true, and Jason has a pretty solid track record with leaks like this, I am very excited.

Messa muy muy love a Jar-Jar.

Godspeed Rebels.
