Rumor: Girls Star Adam Driver To Play Episode VII's Main Villain
Brace yourself, Internet. Respected entertainment website Variety is reporting that thirty-year-old Adam Driver, who plays Adam Sackler on the HBO TV show Girls, is "close to signing on" to play Star Wars Episode VII's main villain, a character "in the vein of" Darth Vader.
"The delay in [Driver] making a decision was due to scheduling issues with 'Star Wars' and his HBO show 'Girls,'" writers Variety's Justin Kroll. "Sources say it’s not just Season 4 that was the hangup, but also future seasons, since future 'Star Wars' installments could also coincide with upcoming seasons of the HBO Lena Dunham comedy."
According to Variety's sources, Driver is satisfied that these scheduling conflicts have been addressed, and "a deal should be finalized in the coming days."
Head over to Variety for the full report. As always, nothing is confirmed until Disney or Lucasfilm says it is.
UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly cites "sources close to the actor" saying that Driver is "one raspy breath away from being announced," whatever that means.
