In the wake of the announcement that J.J. Abrams will direct
Star Wars Episode VII, fans have been wondering who would compose the music for that film: veteran Star Wars composer John Williams or frequent J.J. Abrams collaborator Michael Giacchino? Well, it looks like Giacchino has
stated his preference: he wants Williams to continue providing his iconic scores to the
Star Wars films. Giacchino addressed the subject at a post-concert Q&A in Switzerland:
"He has been a great inspiration to me over the years," he continued. "He has been a great teacher to me and good friend and I would love nothing more than to hear more of his music from that universe."
"If it were up to me I would say 'John, you must do it.'"
Williams himself previously expressed interest in returning to Star Wars. He
told a concert audience in February that "I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George."
