Fan Blog Posts Informed Speculation About Boyega and Ridley's Characters

In a "speculatory, but informed" story on Making Star Wars, Jason Ward expands on some of the information that has been floating around about John Boyega and Daisy Ridley's characters. (Proceed no further if you're worried about spoilers.)

"The rumor is really making the rounds right now that [Boyega] starts off as an evil trooper or pilot of some kind," Ward writes. "The rumor is so rampant we are not ignoring it even though it is unconfirmed."

Referring to Boyega and Ridley by the names of the characters on the early audition script, Ward continues:

We have heard that Thomas starts the film on the side of the villains. Thomas is shot down over Tatooine and he is injured from the crash. The things we heard from Abu Dhabi about a crashed ship is rumored to have been Thomas’ fighter. Rachel rescues him from the wreckage and the elements of the sandy planet. Over the course of their “unlikely pairing,” Thomas sees the reality of the universe and he defects from the side of the villains and decides to help Rachel for saving his life. However, things are not easy for the character because unlike most of the rebels we've met in the series, none were traitors, they were always on the side of right from the beginning. However, it appears Rachel and Thomas have an innocent flirtation in their first film with hints at romance in the future episodes.
I too have heard that Boyega and Ridley are the leads of Episode VII. It's not yet clear how this plotline involving the two of them meshes with the other plotline that we've heard about from the people behind several large entertainment blogs. Jason speculates that the Boyega/Ridley meeting and partnership is the first half of the film and the "other" plotline I just referred to is the second half.

Head over to Making Star Wars to read more of Ward's thoughts about Boyega and Ridley's characters.
