Early Viewership Numbers Show The Force Awakens Teaser Took Internet By Storm

The Hollywood Reporter has partnered with video-marketing firm Zefr to analyze the YouTube viewership numbers on the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the preliminary results should put smiles on Lucasfilm employees' faces: In the approximately 59 hours (or less than three days) since it premiered, the teaser has been viewed over 40 million times.

Public statistics show that the official Star Wars YouTube channel's upload of the teaser has around 9.6 million views, while a version posted by trailer website MOVIECLIPS has 31.8 million views. (The most popular fake trailer, released four days before the real thing, has almost 10 million views.) Taken together, the two most popular uploads of the teaser have received around 41.4 million views.

For comparison, THR notes that the teaser for Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron took five days to reach just over 50 million views. Unless momentum drops off precipitously in the next two days, the Star Wars teaser will likely surpass that record.

THR and Zefr will release "comprehensive" numbers tomorrow.
