In celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Fanboys director and friend of TFN Kyle Newman is getting ready for the worldwide debut of a short film he created to pay tribute to Episode VI. The film is called The Return of Return of the Jedi: 30 Years and Counting, and it features celebrities like Kevin Smith, Seth Green, Chris Hardwick, Jaime King, Topher Grace, and Eli Roth discussing their love for the film. From Jabba the Hutt to Leia's metal bikini and from Ewoks to Darth Vader's redemption, The Return of Return of the Jedi is a love letter to the final film in the Original Trilogy just like Newman's Fanboys was a love letter to the saga as a whole. It premiered for a select audience at a screening of Episode VI at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on May 4th, but soon, you'll be able to check it out for yourself.
The Official Star Wars YouTube channel has posted the first teaser trailer for Newman's tribute, a deleted scene about Luke's return to Dagobah. The full film will debut on Entertainment Weekly's website on Thursday morning. Look for more teasers coming this week on StarWars.com and their YouTube channel. And now, here's that first teaser trailer:
UPDATE: Kyle wrote in to let us know that his film will be shown along with Episode VI itself on the big screen as part of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's "Summer of 1983" movie series. More information about that event is available here. Congratulations to Kyle!
