Here's what he's doing and a request for participants:

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

"A New Hope" 21st century Digital fandom and the Star Wars Renaissance

Dr. William Proctor, Bournemouth University, UK

Dear Star Wars fans,

I am currently looking for volunteers to take part in a research project that looks into fan reactions to the latest phase of the Star Wars Saga since the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney and beyond. I have been mapping the release of such items as photographs, news items, the non-canonisation of the EU, the title, the trailer, and fan reactions to such which has seen an incredible burst of creativity and energy from the Star Wars fan community. As a life-long Star Wars fan myself, I find myself becoming excited once again about the potential for the Saga and a hopeful future that lies in store for the continuing expansion of the universe.

I previously conducted a questionnaire by asking for volunteers via theforce.net following the sale of Lucasfilm and the news that Star Wars would be continuing in cinema. This was published in Participations: The International Journal of Audience Research in 2013 which you can find here for free: http://www.participations.org/Volume%2010/Issue%201/12%20Proctor%2010.1.pdf
Last time, I received over 100 respondents within twelve hours and would like to attract as many people as possible. This research project will lead into 2015 and will culminate with interviews with fans following the release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens with the final book published in 2016. I will be publishing along the way in peer-reviewed academic journals.

If you love Star Wars and you would like to be involved, please email me at: bproctor@bournemouth.ac.uk. I very much look forward to including as many fans as possible where we can talk about all things Star Wars and look to the future where anything is possible.

May the force be with you!
