Marvel Talks Star Wars Comic Roll-Out, Announces Initial Figure For Darth Vader #1

Posted by Eric on January 15, 2015 at 05:06 PM CST

David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, spoke to Comicbook.com in an interview published today to mark this week's release of the company's first new Star Wars comic. Star Wars #1 by Jason Aaron, with art by John Cassaday, is the best-selling comic in at least a decade, with over one million copies sold in its first run.

Gabriel told Comicbook.com about the marketing team's variant cover strategy, revealed that February's Star Wars: Darth Vader #1 had already sold a remarkable 200,000 copies, and promised "some BIG Star Wars comics announcements" in March and April.

When asked about a possible tie-in to The Force Awakens, Gabriel replied, "Uhm…these are not the droids you’re looking for."

You can read the full conversation here. Comicbook.com also has an interview with Jordan White, Marvel's Star Wars editor.
