Stormtroopers Descend On D.C. To Promote Proposed Museum Of Science Fiction

Posted by Eric on December 2, 2013 at 07:49 PM CST

There was an Imperial presence in the seat of American democracy this weekend. Darth Vader, Royal Guards, and stormtroopers from the 501st Legion's Old Line Garrison trooped to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and gathered in front of the U.S. Capitol to support and raise awareness about the Museum of Science Fiction. The museum is a work in progress -- they're currently taking donations to set up a preview site -- but if it gets built, it will exhibit props, documents, and other artifacts that celebrate science-fiction and fantasy entertainment.

The project's website says that the museum's mission is "to create a center of gravity where art and science are powered by imagination." It adds that the museum "will be the world’s first comprehensive science fiction museum, covering the history of the genre across the arts and providing a narrative on its relationship to the real world."

The group from the Old Line Garrison posed for photos with passersby and recorded footage for a promotional video for the project. You can check out local media coverage from DCist, WTOP, and The Washington Post.
