Clone Wars (and Indy) Books News

Posted By Paul on April 17, 2008

Zee Zee from UK fan site Star Wars Books has contacted us with some more info on up-coming Clone Wars and Indiana Jones books, spotted in a Publishers' Weekly list of up-coming movie tie ins.

DK will be producing four books connected to the Clone Wars animated movie. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: the Visual Guide and Star Wars the Clone Wars Ultimate Sticker Book are named specifically.

As well as the Visual Guide and sticker book, the other two Clone Wars movie tie-ins from DK are presumably the two "readers" which we reported here, books for young children to read along with their parents.

This seems to clarify the vaguer reference to "Visual Guides" and "sticker books" in an earlier Publishers' Weekly article, which we covered here, although there may be more books appearing later alongside the Clone Wars animated TV series.

There are also Amazon listings for the Visual Guide on Amazon. Eddie from Once Upon A Galaxy originally spotted this listing, although it's for a version with a 1st September release date, and a parallel listing on the Amazon UK website gives a UK price and a claim that its written in French. Like several other listings for Clone Wars children's books, I suspect that's either the British or French version, not the US one.

Another entry for a different version of the Visual Guide can also be found on Amazon UK, here. With a separate ISBN number and a July 25th release date, this is presumably the American or UK edition, depending on whether the 1st September version is really British or French.

Next, onto the Grosset & Dunlap children's books, previously covered here, here and here.

A book simply titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars by Tracey West, with a print run of 200,000, seems to be the 128-page, $6.99 junior novelization.

There's also a reference toStar Wars: The Clone Wars: Battle at Teth by Kirsten Meyer, with a print run of 150,000 copies. That seems to be this book, which at $3.99 and 32 pages, is apparently a storybook or reader. It's notable because it seems to refer to a relatively obscure planet from the Expanded Universe, and thereby offers what may be a spoiler for the movie (highlight to read):

* Given the location of Teth just outside Hutt Space, that may indicate that this world will play a role in the plotline of the animated movie, which is reported to involve the kidnapping of Jabba's son Rotta the Huttlet. Nice to see an Expanded Universe reference like this showing up!

Additionally, there are also a number of Indiana Jones books slated for May, most of which we've covered already, but which we can recap here for convenience.

Del Rey are publishing a movie adaption by action-adventure novelist James Rollins (covered in this thread on our message boards last year), and The Complete Making of Indiana Jones: The Definitive Story Behind All Four Films by J.W. Rinzler (which we reported earlier here).

Scholastic are producing four titles: the report names a (junior) novelization of the new movie by James Luceno, and a Raiders of the Lost Ark adaption by Ryder Windham, two names well known in the Star Wars franchise. Following what we reported here, the other two Scholastic books will be new junior novellizations of the other two Indy movies.

From Penguin comes a book of Indiana Jones Mad Libs (here), while DK are offering Indiana Jones: The Ultimate Guide by James Luceno, an Indiana Jones: Heroes and Villains Sticker Book, and an other un-named title. Lastly, Quirk Books have The Indiana Jones Handbook: The Complete Adventurer's Guide by Denise Kiernan and Joseph D'Agnese (here.

Whewh! That's all for now: more news on all this as we get it!
