Karen Traviss (Republic Commando, Legacy of the Force, The Clone Wars, Star Wars Insider, etc., etc., etc.) announced that she will be writing an Essential Guide covering the Star Wars military on her website yesterday. No word yet on the exact title or the scope of the book, but given the extensive nature of past Essential Guides, readers can probably expect this volume to cover armies, navies, and special forces in every era.

This announcement reflects a new trend for the Essential Guide series, which is now thirteen years old. In addition to updated volumes like The New Essential Guide to Droids, we’re also seeing comprehensive guides on more general subjects: Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, the upcoming Essential Atlas, and now this new military guide.
