UPDATE: See the official press release below via Jedi News:

STAR WARS™: THE CLONE WARS ™ Animated TV Series to Debut on Sky Movies Premiere & HD

LONDON, UK (September 26, 2008) – Sky Movies launches a new era in the STAR WARS Saga on Saturday, October 25th with the UK premiere of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, a new, weekly animated television series from Lucasfilm Animation on Sky Movies Premiere & Sky Movies Premiere HD.

The first-ever weekly CG-animated series from executive producer George Lucas, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS chronicles the adventures of such favourite characters as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda as they struggle against the forces of the dark side led by Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous during the divisive Clone Wars.

Combining the legendary storytelling of Lucasfilm with state-of-the-art, computer-generated animation, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS will air in half-hour "mini-movies" every week on Sky Movies Premiere & HD for an initial season spanning twenty-two episodes.

"I felt there were a lot more Star Wars stories left to tell," said Lucas. "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward."

Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies and Sky Box Office said, "For years Sky Movies has been the first place to see Star Wars films on British television, so we're thrilled that this time we will be the first place anywhere that UK fans will be able to watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

Lewis continues, "Visually stunning with story lines and characters that could only come from Lucasfilm, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS will undoubtedly appeal to both to long-standing STAR WARS enthusiasts and a new generation of fans. Yet this is Star Wars like you've never seen before, and so it is only right that we are able to broadcast the entire series in high definition."

Each week, a new story in the galaxy-changing Clone Wars will come to the centre stage, set against a backdrop of a dwindling number of Jedi fighting to maintain freedom and restore peace. In addition to well-known characters, the series introduces new heroes from the Star Wars universe including Anakin's Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano and a rogue's gallery of never-seen-before villains. The series continues the STAR WARS Saga's tradition of thrilling stories, astonishing visuals and extraordinary music. The series' supervising director is Dave Filoni with Catherine Winder as producer.

The premiere of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS follows in a long line of firsts for Sky Movies with the STAR WARS franchise, including the UK HD premieres of all six original feature-length adventures, the commission and world premiere of 'STAR WARS: Shortened' by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, and the documentary Feel The Force, which heralded the cinematic release of STAR WARS: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

UPDATE #2: The Clone Wars is on its way to Cartoon Network in the UK starting on February 14th at 10:00 am!

Thanks to Julian for the heads up!
