Wizard World Comic Con lands in New Orleans this weekend and will feature such Star Wars guests as Billy Dee Williams, Ray Park, and Daniel Logan. Members of the 501st Legion Bast Alpha Garrison will also be onhand and sent over the following press release to fill you in on what to expect...
"Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion’s Bast Alpha Garrison will be invading New Orleans and the Morial Convention Center on Saturday January 29th and Sunday January 30th to participate in the Wizard World Comic Con. The 501st will also be there to help raise money for the Dylan Tujague special needs fund. Come out and see your favorite characters from the Star Wars universe including Stormtroopers, Tie Pilots, Boba Fett, and the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader “bring order” to the Wizard World galaxy and help make a difference in a very special young man’s life. Make sure to bring your camera and feel free to come in costume to help celebrate Star Wars.
Bast Alpha Garrison is the Louisiana chapter of The 501st Legion. Since 1997, the costuming organization known as the 501st Legion has spread the magic of the Star Wars genre worldwide through its authentic-looking costumes, and has become the leading force in fan-based charity events. The 501st, also known as “Vader’s Fist,” is truly dedicated to brightening the lives of those less-fortunate. The work of the 501st is legendary when it comes to events and charity work. Founder Albin Johnson (TK-210) chose the name in 1997 to represent our fictional unit of Imperial Stormtroopers. Author Timothy Zahn, with the approval of Lucasfilm, honored the Legion by incorporating the name into his Star Wars novel Survivor’s Quest in 2004. Since then, the 501st name has continued to appear in official Star Wars material including books, toys, and video games. The members focus on Imperial (bad guy) costuming from all the Star Wars movies. Although the Legion is a costuming group, its main focus is charitable work. The group is dedicated to service and charity work within the local community and to enhancing the Star Wars experience for all who come in contact with them. The Bast Alpha Garrison visits Children's Hospitals and attends numerous charitable events and conventions throughout the year. They can be found online at www.501st.com and www.la501st.com.
