Skywalker Ranch Up Close Posted By Eric on December 13, 2009
Philip Bloom, a filmmaker and photographer, recently had a chance to visit Skywalker Ranch. As a photo/video enthusiast, Bloom didn't pass up the opportunity to shoot a brief film of the palatial outdoor spaces on the Lucas property.
The video is absolutely stunning, and Bloom -- a big Star Wars fan himself -- shares a cool story about getting to screen his short film in front of film-making legends.
I was nervous. Never having seen my work on a big screen as good as this, but also George Lucas came in to watch and also the legendary sound designer Ben Burtt. My heart was racing. I watched as the edit played and they loved it. My favourite moment was when the star timelapse came on and Ben Burtt said ?Hey, now, hang on!!? This was a very quick ungraded draft edit knocked together as a test not supposed to be shown as an example of my work! Then Quentin Tarantino came in as he was due to talk at a screening of ?Inglorious Basterds? and George said to Quentin, come see this. Quentin waxed lyrical, calling it Epic and William Wylersesque and was shocked it was shot on a DSLR. He had no idea you could shoot HD video on them or they were so good. I love George Lucas and Quentin Tarantino, so to have my work screened to them was pretty special to me.
Check out Bloom's blog post here! (The video is at the bottom of the blog post, right above the comments.)
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
