In continuing his "Protos and Premiums" series on the main site, Gus Lopez takes a look back at the vintage Kenner RC Landspeeder and how it differed from the 1978 landspeeder toy that was released.

"This landspeeder is a Kenner toy concept from the early years that never saw its way to market. In many ways it is clearly different from the landspeeder action figure toy that was released by Kenner in 1978.

First, the colors are an extremely close match to the on-screen landspeeder with extra details such as the red stripe down the middle and in front of the windshield, and the knob on the trunk. The base coloring of this prototype is a more accurate representation than the final toy. The foot pegs indicate it was designed for the action figures, although without seat backs as in the production toy, the droids would have been standing up for a ride."
