Presidio Plan Unveiled Posted By Joshua on October 11, 2002
The SF Chronicle reports on the new Presidio project plan, finally unveiled and ready to go:
Radley said Lucasfilm, based in Marin County, has "fully addressed" concerns raised by state and federal historic preservation agencies that oversee new construction in the Presidio. The heights and "footprints" of the buildings were reduced, the buildings will be farther back from adjoining streets, and a two-story glass pavilion was eliminated, he said.
Radley described George Lucas as the center's conceptual designer. Kevin Hart of Gensler Architecture and Design in San Francisco was the design architect. Lawrence Halprin, a renowned landscape architect, designed the center's public garden.
The buildings, originally designed to be 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 stories tall, will now range from one to four stories.
Those changes have improved views of the nearby Palace of Fine Arts -- views that had been partly obstructed in earlier designs.
Radley said Lucasfilm had forwarded the plans to the state and federal agencies but did not need their approval to proceed.
The plans were approved in late August by officials with the Presidio Trust,
the federal agency that oversees most of the land and the buildings in the 1, 490-acre park. The trust chose Lucasfilm to develop the site in 2000, after evaluating proposals from four finalists.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
