More Details On R2-D2 Mailboxes

Posted By Dustin on March 15, 2007

We've gotten additional information from our Rebel Scouts embedded deep within the "Empire".

TFN: How many will there be?

"There are 80-something postal districts around the country, most of which are gettting four of the R2D2 boxes each, so figure 320 or so of these will be spread out across the nation."

TFN: Where will they be located?
"People won't be seeing R2D2 on every corner. They will be placed in high-traffic, highly visible locations."

TFN: What additional security measures if any are being taken to prevent theft?
"I can't tell you about the security measures, but hopefully fans will remember that these are real mail boxes, with real mail inside, and will face a serious federal offense if they try to steal one."

Stay tuned to TheForce.net as the story develops!

UPDATE:
We've gotten word that the rollout for the R2-D2 mailboxes is this Friday with an official announcement coming on Monday, March 19th. Also in a related note, a reliable source reports that an R2-D2 Mailbox showed up on a very busy street corner in Columbus, Ohio today only to be removed hours later. When asked the USPS simply replied "no comment".

We do not have any information yet on where they will all be located, but from the news above they will be out in public and not just inside Post Office lobbies.

UPDATE 2:
We've gotten word from our inside "Rebelscout" that an Imperial transimission reveals the number of mailboxes to be 400 nationwide.
