Late last night, John Williams conducted the Olympic Orchestra in Salt Lake City with his "Call Of The Champions" at the opening ceremonies. Reaction thus far is that it is magnificent, and quite similar to "Duel Of The Fates." Thanks to Kris Van de Sande among others for the note!
UPDATE John Takis follows up this original post:
John Williams' "Call of the Champions" has been out on CD for weeks now. It is indeed magnificent, but apart from the fact that it opens with a solo chorus, it is absolutely NOTHING LIKE "Duel of the Fates," let alone "quite similar." The orchestration is classic John Williams, and both pieces feature chants in a non-English language, but the likeness ends there. Tone, meter, text ... just about everything is coming from a different direction and used to different effect. Still, if you're not convinced, you can go to www.callofthechampions.com for a sample. It is my *opinion* that your previous report was musically uninformed and misleading.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
