Overall, this is one exciting 2-disc set to have, and after all, it is Star Wars! The set boasts the most incredible video transfer to date and one hell of a rockin soundtrack as well. LucasFilm once again proved that they can indeed do it right ? and create of the best DVDs of the year (and all time)! We give this title our highest recommendation.
All things considered, Attack of the Clones certainly makes for a fantastic DVD release, but unlike the last time around, the true highpoint of the disc is the film itself. Not to cast disparaging remarks of the supplemental material, since it certainly is enjoyable, but The Phantom Menace was a better DVD. Not by much, granted, but with the exception of the Web Documentaries and Films Are Not Released; They Escape, many of the extras lack the intimate, personal feel of that release. The one true complaint I have about the extras, though, is that the VHS release will contain the entertaining Star Wars: Connections (a sort of history of the Star Wars Saga hosted by the droids), whereas the DVD release doesn't...what's up with that? But this almost seems like nitpicking ? this is still pretty much guaranteed to be my favorite DVD release for the next three years, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the same. With the transfer of the film itself, George Lucas' dream of digital perfection has finally come to fruition, and I can't imagine another single DVD that will get as much play in the Burger household as this one will for quite some time.
What more can be said? The transfer is much better than the Phantom Menace job, the audio is just as good, and you even get slightly better extras. Fans can rest easy as the "From Puppets to Pixels" is just as interesting as "The Beginning", and there are even two more great documentaries to watch. Better than The Phantom Menace DVD, this is a must-own disc for any Star Wars fan or anyone who wants to put their home theater to the test.
This 2-disc DVD set is packed with a collection of terrific extras that any true STAR WARS will be happy with. I?m sure there?s tons of stuff Lucas isn?t giving right now, but that?s cool. I?d rather get some now and some later, rather than all of it at once. This way we continue to have something to look forward to. This new DVD set shares many similarities to the set for EPISODE I. It?s basically a clone of that set, all the way down to packaging. Van Ling explained, ?I think the issue here was we really wanted to be consistent, the same way STAR WARS always starts off the same way. The fact that it?s familiar is hopefully not breeding contempt, but breeds some comfort.?
Great in the cinema, "Star Wars: Episode II" stuns on DVD. The presentation of this two-disc release are incredible, and bear the hallmark of the perfectionist standards of George Lucas.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones is a fun and enjoyable film, in my opinion the best Star Wars entry since Empire. DVD-wise, I wish the deleted footage included some of the lost action bits we've heard about. And as good as these documentaries are, they just don't hold a candle to the Episode I DVD's excellent The Beginning. More is not necessarily better, and I would have been EXTREMELY happy to have just gotten The Middle. Still, if the extras here aren't quite as good as before, they're still ample and welcome. Most importantly, the picture and sound quality here is an unqualified, outta-the-park home run. The film presentation is truly dazzling... arguably the best currently available on any DVD. That alone should justify adding this disc to your collection.
Despite its flaws Episode II is still the best Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back. Do I really have to twist your arm to buy this DVD? Star Wars fan or not, you really need to experience this film in your own home as it will truly test the limits of your home theater system. The transfer of this DVD looks unlike anything you have seen before. It's a reference disc that will be hard to beat since everything else is just...well...film.
