Halifax Daily News Interviews Terry Brooks Posted By Britany on October 24, 2002
The Halifax Daily News features an interview with author Terry Brooks, who will be at a book signing in Halifax tomorrow. Here's an excerpt:
"It was my editor?s theory that there was a huge audience out there, but that they were being given Tolkien over and over again. He proved to be right," says Brooks, on the phone from Edmonton. He?s in the midst of a book tour that brings him to Halifax tomorrow.
Relying upon some of fantasy?s stock elements - spaceships, wizards, strange creatures, and magic - Brooks has added layer upon layer of detail in creating a rich world through successive novels. The latest, The Voyage of The Jerle Shannara: Morgawr, continues to explore the Four Lands and features descendants of characters introduced in The Sword of Shannara.
It?s the kind of thrilling adventure novel that would make a great movie in the right hands. But so far, Brooks has resisted the lure of the big-screen and, in fact, regards filmmaking with disdain. "Having your book made into a movie is like having your child kidnapped by a cult," he declares. "There?s a mentality that movies are a vindication for the writer, but I resent that. To me, the book is the superior art form." Then, with a ring of mischievousness in his voice, Brooks adds: "?course, if Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings director) calls me up, I?d be elated!"

I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
