Ewan McGregor was offered the James Bond role before Daniel Craig, it has been revealed.

Martin Campbell, the director of new 007 movie Casino Royale, is quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying: "I think he got another job or decided he didn't want it."

The director also said he "wasn't totally convinced" Daniel would live up to the standard set by previous Bonds, such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

Ewan, who starred in another blockbusting franchise, Star Wars, previously said that playing Bond might be fun but could be too long-term.
