Even More Episode II DVD Reviews Posted By Joshua on October 17, 2002
We've posted our reviews here at TFN (Josh, Jeff) of the Episode II DVD, and already two (1, 2) series of what others have thought. Here's another opinion:
By all accounts Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones is an amazing DVD. Without reservation, I give it DVD Talk's highest rating. It excels on all fronts with reference quality picture and sound, has extremely well produced supporting material and provides a home theater experience which you will want to revisit again and again. Most importantly the Episode II DVD gives you the chance to let a little time pass from the insane frenzy which surrounds Star Wars films and truly appreciate and judge it for what it is - a groundbreaking technical achievement.
At first I thought it might only be my eyes, my equipment, or the room lighting at fault. So I compared the screen image to the Superbit edition of "The Fifth Element," which has a futuristic flying scene in it reminiscent of the one in the opening pages of "Clones." The image in "The Fifth Element" was slightly clearer, crisper, sharper, and just as dimensional. I tried this comparison under three different lighting conditions, from total darkness to full light. Now, I know what you're thinking: It's an unfair test. "The Fifth Element" in its Superbit issue is the closest thing we've had to state-of-the-art in current DVD reproduction, surpassed only by high-definition discs, and its color palette is brighter than that of "Clones." But Lucas claims that his digital process, THX mastered, is better than anything else on the market, and he's encouraging other filmmakers to utilize the technology. In my limited experience, Lucas's digital process is not significantly better than using regular camera film, at least not in its present incarnation on disc.
Where the movie itself is concerned, the DVD is nothing short of perfection. A beautiful marriage of rich, detailed visuals and booming, dynamic audio. The supplemental materials are fun and informative, though don't quite manage the same heights found on the E1 disk. Still, Attack of the Clones is one of the best looking and sounding disks on the market today - a great film in a great format. Simply put, your life, as a Star Wars fan, is not complete without this DVD.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
