Dave Filoni Interviewed At IGN

Posted By Mike on April 14, 2009

After providing their review of the first season of The Clone Wars, IGN sat down to discuss the season with supervising director, Dave Filoni. Click here for the interview and see the exceprt below.

Also, in case you missed it, make sure to check out Dave's recent appearance on the Force-Cast's Clone Wars Season One Wrap Party!

"IGN: As a fan, an episode that really stood out to me early on was "Rookies", which was the first real focus on some of the Clone Troopers. How did that episode come about?

Filoni: That was purely that Henry Gilroy and I just wanted to do a story about Clones and George had that really high on his list of stories he wanted to see also. I think when you're a fan, you always wonder, well, what if we just saw a whole day as a Stormtrooper. What's that like? In some ways, you could do the whole series just about these clones. We've proven that they have quite interesting personalities and different abilities and ways of thinking about things. It's something that I think is really fun to develop in a series. That episode came out really, really good. Everybody was pretty pleased with that one.

IGN: You mentioned the episode with the Twi'lek girl. It seems like there's an opportunity there to revisit characters we met there, like Waxer and Boil. Should we expect them to pop up now and again, like Commander Cody?

Filoni: Definitely. One of the things we have to keep track of in The Clone Wars though is who's alive and who's dead. [Laughs] Especially when it comes to clones! To circle back to "Rookies" for a second, I think one of the most compelling things there is that nobody knew those characters. Echo and Fives and Hevy… and at the end of the day only two of them made it out. So I think whenever you're dealing with new characters like that, it's curious because you don't know what their fate is. But Waxer and Boil, they survived that melee and we'll see if they do return if they survive then. But yeah, we have little lists of all the clones we've been creating -- all the incidentals -- to see where they're at and sometimes we have to pick them off. But hopefully not."

Thanks to Jeff for the heads up!
