"Hi, don't know if anyone else has reported this, but veteran SW author and contributor Michael A Stackpole has officially had an asteroid named after him. As reported on his on website (http://www.stormwolf.com/), "an asteroid about a mile in diameter, in the asteroid belt on the Mars side of the solar system. It was designated 165612. Until today. Now that asteroid is officially known as Stackpole. The International Astronomical Union approved the designation on March 21."
Michael goes on to say how proud and what a singular honor it is to have an asteroid named after himself: "I can remember looking at images of the moon or Mars and seeing features named after famous people [...] this is a slice of immortality that goes beyond writing books. It is a humbling honor. And I’ve not stopped smiling since I got the call."
Just so long as his asteroid isn't home to a space-slug!!"
