Holiday Special Screens in Canada Posted By Joshua on December 18, 2002
Yesterday's Ottawa Citizen carried an artice about an unusual screening of a long lost Christmas Star Wars film:
The legendary Star Wars Holiday Special -- known to fans as the worst thing George Lucas has ever made -- will be screen this Sunday in Ottawa.
The TV program was aired in 1978 and never again seen. It tells how Luke Skywalker and Han Solo battle Imperial forces to help Chewbaca return to his Wookie planet and visit his wife Malla, his son Itchy and his son Lumpy. The original stars of Star Wars, including Mark Hammill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, star in the special, which also featured musical guests Diahann Carroll and the Jefferson Starship.
A cartoon segment features the first appearance of Bobba Fett, three years before The Empire Strikes Back.
And as a bonus, there is a song and dance number led by Beatrice Arthur in the Cantina set built for the original Star Wars film, and Carrie Fisher singing to Chewbacca and his family.
The Star Wars Holiday Special will be shown along with The Donnie and Marie Star Wars Special, featuring tap-dancing Stormtroopers, and The Muppet Show with cast of Star Wars, featuring Mark Hammill, and Chewbacca. They will be all shown at Zaphod Beeblebrox, 27 York St., starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $4 at the door, and admission is restricted to those 19 and older.
