Star Wars Links Family Generations Posted By Mike on July 15, 2008
WiscNews.com has a fun article by Christina Beam where she explains how Star Wars has linked generations of her family. See the excerpt below and click here for the full piece.
"Looking back, the first sign was when my husband, then my fiance, gave me a VHS of "Star Wars" one year for Christmas. I had never seen it, but still, I said something like, "Now, why do I want this?"
That's what we literary types call "foreshadowing."
Flash forward nine years and I'm up till 1 a.m. the night before Halloween, feverishly sewing the final details of a full-body faux-fur Ewok costume for my first-grader.
"Now, why am I doing this?" I asked myself as I stitched Velcro on my little Ewok's felt hood. But by then it was too late.
Not only had I married that Star Wars fanatic, but I had two sons whom Erik quickly converted to mini Star Wars fanatics. It happened faster than you can say "Lando Calrissian." I never had a chance.
The Star Wars films are iconic and such a big part of American culture for good reason, which I don't need to elaborate on here.
But there's a gap between the part of the population that has seen and appreciates the movies and those who use the films as a framework for their lives - the true Star Wars nerds. I'm afraid the three other members of my family have already passed over to the dark side on that one."
