SW Invades The Pawtucket Red Sox

Posted By Mike on May 5, 2009

The blog at MassLive.com has a fun feature highlighting a Star Wars day held at McCoy Stadium, home of the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox. Darth Vader, various stormtroopers and Chewbacca in a baseball jersey were all in attendance. Click here to read about the event and to check out some great pictures.

UPDATE: Adam Scott, Public Relations Officer of the 501st New England Garrison, sent over the following report from the Star Wars Day event: (Click on the pics for a larger view.)

"On May 3rd, 2009, members of the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion, along with sister Rebel Bases Kamino and Alderaan, participated in the Pawtucket Red Sox's first ever "Star Wars Day" event. The Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox experienced a near-capacity crowd for the first time this season as fans of baseball and Star Wars alike packed the stands. Lines wrapped around the concourse and outside of the arena as attendees took photos with their favorite characters and the lifesize Dewback and Landspeeder which were situated outside the arena.

As part of the pregame festivies, TKs 3720 (Sean Carmichael), 1223 (Greg Chase), 5306 (Gordon Gravalese), 1839 (Robert Josti) and 2784 (Jon Moscariello) accompanied the Lord of the Sith Darth Vader (Bob Gouveia, SL-1171) to the pitcher's mound as he threw a successful first pitch across home plate at McCoy Stadium. Also of note and pride, the Legion's own Krista Carmichael (IG-6182) performed the National Anthem.

After the PawSox shut out the Gwinnet Braves, the Legion members posed for pictures and signed autographs as the crowd poured out into the rain which marked the end of "Star Wars Day" for the Pawsox.

A donation was made in the NEG's name to the PawSox charitable fund, along with an extra $228 donated for photos with the Dewback. Great troop, New England!

Thanks Adam!
